Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

Like Mike was saying. If someone really wants the work done they will do what it takes to get it done. Talk to your customers and be upfront and the will be open with you. I have clients drop off all the time to my house from as far away as 35-45 miles. And I'm not rural at all; and no one has ever complained. I have also done several pick-ups and dropped off clients after drop-offs. I wouldn't see it ever being a problem for you in your area. If you prefer to do work at your place ask the customer and if it's an issue then go to them. You should always being charging for the cost of being mobile anyway, whether it's built into your pricing before the quote or you inform the customer there will be a surcharge. People understand and are will to pay for things as long as you are upfront. Most people say to me, "I'm sure it's easier if you just do it at your house that way you have everything right there." This after I have advertised that I'm mobile. So don't sweat it. Do what works best for you and the customer per situation.

Great shop set-up! I could spend a lot of time in there.

The customer should drop off the car. It gives them a chance to see your set-up, and be impressed with your attention to details (being clean and organized). If you give them a ride home, it's another little thing they can appreciate, but I wonder if you need insurance for that, as it's for a business.

Just my 2 cents.

Great Shop!!!
I has a shop in the country in Indiana that I had built just for detailing. I did pick ups and drop offs, both with good results. I had regular customers that I cleaned weekly with a full detail 2X a year. They were my bread butter. They didn't mind the extra cost of pick up because they got the service and quality they paid for. I also had a lot of production details that were dropped off the night before. I also used a quality check sheet that I gave to the customer when finished. I did the inspection when finished and listed the products used, X number of times buffed, what pads, problem areas, etc. I had very good feedback on this, and about all the repeat customers I could handle.
Best of luck.

Shop is really nice. You may Ned to do some mobile to get your business going, plus like you said for the quick jobs. At some point, people will be using you and would be willing to come to you.

Very Nice Shop! Professional looking, I would not have a problem leaving my car there.

How long did it take to build? I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Again Nice!!

Greg

Hi Greg, thanks!

We built it in a summer, but I did most of the work by myself, including doing all of the electrical and drywall with just me and a drywall jack. We also poured the slab.

I did the design specifically so it has a 12' ceiling on one side, and 10' on the other, so that I could put a real lift on the 12' side (boyhood dream.) It was cheaper than I thought to get that. The old gas station look just fits with my car hobby, so it worked out pretty well. Feel free to PM me if you want more info. I probably still have plans and stuff laying around.
