I've done the correction and waxing on my truck and it looks good. Now it's time to start on the Claying of the car and motorcycle!
How labor intenive is claying (it's a 2011 mid size in good shape) and how much clay should I buy to get me going? I have all the other products to use after the clay thanks to AG but can't wait to try the claying. A friend of mine thinks that the clay may just be used on show cars but it doesn't sound like it in the forum, Any Ideas.
Thanks for the help Experts!!!

You didn't clay before the "correction" on your truck?

You Corrected your paint waxed and now are wanting to clay?

Your correct order should be more like this

Wash car

Iron X car

Clay car ( Meguiars Clay Kit would be good to start with )

Polish car // compound first if necessary

then use Sealant or Wax

Claying is not hard at all.. Just take some time your first round at it.

The Megs Kit will get you through your vehicle just fine :xyxthumbs:

Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit - G1016

Yes I did correct the paint on the truck with no clay before. I keep wondering if I should start again being easy on the "polish".
Anyway, I'm starting on the car now and want to get this one right!!!!

Definitely make sure to clay before correction work, especially of Baggie test show contaminants.

Any of the clays will do, take your pick. Aggressive clay only if you have over spray or severe rail dust. Mother and Meguiars kits you can get locally will do just fine.

In my opinion claying is a breeze. It's much less time consuming than the following steps. The roof and hood will probably need the most attention. You will definately "feel" progress as you go.

I would suggest a fine grade speedy prep towel.

+1 on the speedy prep. After using it once, clay is too time consuming. I can "clay" the whole car in the time it used to take me to knead the clay and form a patty

What's the point of claying after you corrected your paint? You pretty much got rid of the contamination during the correction, atleaste a majority. Besides that, how did u manage to correct paint successfully without claying?

This is what I want to know as well. Correcting down paint without claying can cause any contaminants stuck in the CC to get on your pad, and create nice little drawings on your paint :D

Yea like I'm confused as to why clay wasn't used in the first place :/

I'm guessing a 2 or 3 step correction where most the contaminants came out on the first compounding step, the polished out swirls from that, then finished.

I think (hope) he's talking about claying a different car that hasn't had any polishing.

i would suggest Speedy Prep towel
Clay Block Too! ( Optimum or Chemical Guys )

They will CUT the time of Claying ( Especially the towel ) about 50% + Less!
