Getting new car...need advice.

If you read around the forums there has been tons of people using a finishing polish such as Menzerna 4000 (or 3500) to polish out their Subi. Since we have soft paint it should be significantly easy to remove light swirls and marring compared to Audi clearcoat where it's much more difficult to eliminate.

One thing that I messed up on and later found out is that you have to polish around the curves and not on top of them. I made the mistake of machine polishing on the curved portions of the hood and door, and luckily I wasn't using an orange pad with aggressive compound because I would've taken out a good amount of clearcoat.

You might have to invest in 4" CCS pads to get the front bumper as there's TONS of curves and grooves that you can't get to with a 5" LC Hybrid pad.

So far I've used Meguiar's 205 and Menzerna 4000 and I believe those are the two best polishes you can use on a Subi.

Keep us updated on how things are going!

I hear you on the front bumper. There's a lot going on, and really the whole front clip looks like it would pose some challenges with a larger pad. My '09 xB was easy, with its large, open panels.

I'm gonna start with white pads. They should finish well with the WGFG, from what I gather. I suppose the black would give it just that little extra...

I'm just not completely sold on the clear bra. In my line of work, I see a lot of cars, and I'm never satisfied with the way the film is cut around panels. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to that stuff. To top that off with the fact that it would have to be replaced every 2-3 years, leaves me wary. I never see clear film that is up to my standards on a 2 or 2-yr-old car...scratches, swirls, yellowing, peeling edges. I guess some of that is maintenance, and some is film quality and installation. You still have the problem with the area that's protected by the film being a slightly different color, and definitely different condition, than the rest of the paint...just like the old black bras. 😳Most film applications that I see don't protect the absolute edges of panels, and leave gaps elsewhere which would still be subject to chips. So now I've completely talked myself out of it. I can see it for an investment or show car that may leave the garage on sunny Sunday's, but I'll be better off using a coating this time around than next to nothing on my Scion.

Well, the car arrived at Heuberger this week, and I have to get all the financing/paperwork taken care of before its shipped to me. With Thanksgiving coming up, it'll probably be about 2 weeks before I'm driving it.

Congrats on the WRX! I just did a write up a little while ago where I polished and coated a WRX with the Crystal Coat. It was a 2016 Dark Grey Metallic! It was extremely easy to polish out. I thought the clear coat was going to be extremely soft, but it actually wasn't that bad at all! The Wolfgang Finishing Glaze will work perfect, just test spot it first and move up if you have to. I used a prototype polish (fine cut) with the Grey (black) CCS pad and it worked excellent! The car had some very light water spots and they came out extremely easy. We will have more information about the prototype polish I used in the near future. But since it is not out yet, The Wolfgang Finishing Glaze would be perfect for you. In my opinion, if the paint isn't that bad, try the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with the black flat pad first. I only say this because I have a feeling that the Crystal Black Silica paint on your Subie may be a little softer than the dark grey metallic I was working on (just a hunch). I think you'll be surprised how easy that paint will polish out. Congrats again and good luck with your detail. Would love to read your write up and see some pictures of the beast.

Thanks, Andre! I saw the write-up you did. That WRX turned out great, and was definitely a contributor in my decision to go with the Crystal Coat. I really wanted some that prototype polish when I saw it. 😉

I got the car Friday night. It was filthy. Open carrier from CO to TN with inclement weather...rain, snow, salted roads. I ran it through a local touchless wash, and it didn't do much of anything.

I knew it had a lot of water spots and a few door cup scratches before I started washing yesterday, followed by IronX and Speedy Prep Sponge. After the wash and decon, I noticed it had several scratches. Apparently, someone had laid or slid something across the top of the trunk and other random scratches. Of course there was the obligatory dealer logo, which was on the car before they told me it had come in...and of course the area was just wiped off, while dirty.

I started with the white pad and Meg's Ultimate Compound. I ended using the orange pad on the scratches. I used the MUC on a microfiber applicator for the scratches and water spots I couldn't get with the 5.5" pads...door cups, and all the other intricate areas on this car. This car is not easy to work on with the mirrors, and all the lines and curves. There's a lot going on.

I finished the whole car with black pads and the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze. Lighting is terrible in my garage(dungeon), but it turned out pretty good. I used a flash light to make sure I got everything. It was tedious.

I already posted about my issue with the Blackfire Crystal Coat. It was 10pm when I attempted to apply, and past midnight when I finally buffed the residue off the hood. I gave up. I couldn't sleep I was so frustrated, so I got up early this morning and gave the BFCC another shot. Same problem. I ended up using the Crystal Seal on everything.

Love that WRX! that black is gonna keep you busy my friend:)

Looks great from what I can see! I feel you on yhe struggle with staying up late to finish the job. It took me 3 days to do a wash/decon, one-step polish, CarPro Eraser wipedown, and one coat of Cquartz UK with Reload as a topper. It was long and tedious but was well worth it.
