Long story short, gallon of house paint must have fallen off a truck or car, came around the turn and drove right through it luckily I didn't hit the can that was still in the road. I got most of the paint off my wheel wells and doors, but I just can't seem to get it out of the tire treads.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Neil

Try APC at 4:1 or maybe even a stronger dilution to see if you can get it off? I don't know if rubbing mineral spirits on rubber would necessarily be a good idea.. something tells me it won't be.

The easiest way is to blast it off with a pressure washer.

It's in the tread? As in the part of the tire on the road? If that's the case, maybe drive down a dirt road or something. Yeah you'll need to wash your car again but that's easier than cleaning paint out of the treads of your tire

If you absolutely must get it all out of the treads probably the easiest method would be to remove each wheel/tire and use a steamer all around the treads of each tire. It will take a while but should do the trick.

wheels off and jet wash it.. also using an old screwdriver to try and flake it off.. depending on thickness...

The more solvent you use the more messy it will become.. but if its your last resort mineral turpentine... just be sure to APC the crap out of them afterwards to removed petroleum based residue.. then first drive carefully and NOT in the wet... scrub the tyres in a litle and your good..

Best of luck..

Thanks for the suggestions. I did do OPC at 3:1 sprayed on the tires the day it happened. Didn't do anything, but I didn't have time to scrub as I was already scrubbing the wheel wells and had limited time.

I also tried hitting with the pressure washer this past weekend (I had actually just ordered one the day before this happened). Didn't budge it at all.

Seems like some is coming off with just driving. Maybe the heat from the road and driving is making it lose its adhesion some (no dirt roads nearby Shaneb).

I have a steamer, might give that a try this weekend.

Thanks,
Neil

Must be oil based.xylene will remove it from Home Depot wear heavey duty gloves. If you can't remove in tight areas just paint give it a little aerosol black paint.

If it is latex then use window washer fluid. Spray on and let dwell, then agiate wiith stiff brush. Rinse with hose.
