Getting racked over the coals on AG shipping costs

I have to agree, shipping costs everywhere are a pain in the tail feathers.

But, have you tried your local auto parts store, auto paint supplier? Many times they can get the same products shipped FREE to their store(s). Granted, the initial price may seem high, but there won't be that pesky shipping cost added in.

If I buy local I have to pay the pesky 10% sales tax

Eventually all states will require you to pay sales tax on Internet purchases since most are done through a credit card or debit card. NY is already starting as well as NJ with Amazon.

I had to ship 2 plastic RC Bodies and the box was only 5lbs from St Augustine, Fl to Jacksonville, Fl yesterday and they wanted $28 to ship it what 45miles by ground. Yes shipping charges are high, But I don't think it is AG making the prices up.

For the next 2hours there is free shipping over $125.

Shipping is a "pass through" cost. There isn't any profit on it, it's purely a cost covering expense. Plan your purchases accordingly and take advantage of the free shipping.

Oh come on, I've seen plenty of businesses charge me far more for shipping than what was on the box when I received it.

Not everything that goes into shipping is listed on that stamp

I think you are all being not only rude, but unreasonable

It really is where to put expenses and profit. Does the shipping guy's salary get put under the shipping charge and the accounts payable person the product price? How about receiving? It really shouldn't matter, the total cost is the total cost. From a marketing standpoint, I see people willing to pay more on every item to get free shipping. The down side is people start ordering a single bottle at $8. Tough to make a living selling that way. The problem with higher shipping based on dollar amounts makes it seem like I am being penalized for spending more. And we know shipping is based on weight and bulk. So why should shipping jump way up for buying the high cost premium version of the same weight?

:iagree: :props:

Meguiars APC+ X3 $47.97 weight = lbs shipping $12.99
OPT OC 2.0 X 1 $59.99 weight = ozs. shipping $ 15.99

Hmmmm something is not right about that. Yes you can wait for free shipping blocks or run up the tab to get free shipping but that is not always an option. I know there is overhead that has to met to keep the lights on and to hire quality people which AG surely does. No one can argue that, but at the same time I know that I have only wanted one or two items and haven't bought them because of the end price once the shipping has been added. Perfect example above.

I passed up the buy one get on free deal AG had going for the Iron X gel a few weeks ago. I hade 4 bottles of the gel and was quoted $18 for shipping... I couldn't bring myself to paying that for shipping so I canceled the order

Please remember all forum members can use AGO for free shipping over $95 and we price match.

We appreciate the AGO code, Meghan, but that is not the point. Shipping charges calculated by dollar amount when you pay the UPS charges by weight is inherently unfair.

Shipping is what it is, but it's usually cheaper to ship to a business than a residence. Type in your work address next time and see if that reduces the cost. Shipping rates aren't going to get any better with fuel prices where they are.

That's no good. Don't you know, they want :

1.FREE shipping,
2.Cheap (or even better yet FREE) flat rate shipping to anywhere in the solar system that can get an Internet connection
3. Constant 20% off everything in the house sales
4. Every cool new product in stock in copious amounts (God forbid you run out of one thing and shipping is delayed),
5. Lots of BOGOs( that nobody else does),
6.All the CHEAPEST prices
7. ABSOLUTELY NO (as in NONE!) packing peanuts.
8. All Eco Friendly packaging,
9. FREE give always of every new product
10. FREE how to videos on detailing everything
11.A FREE forum to learn and ask questions to a world renowned expert for FREE
12.People to moderate said forum for FREE
13. More contests to win stuff for FREE
14. Free samples ( that nobody else gives),
15. Price matching on any product you can find listed on the Internet from any unknown vendor that resembles any product AG sells
16. Everything stocked in gallon sizes,
17. Speedy returns on anything UPS may damage (along with the right to complain and post pictures of the damaged dripping wet merchandise)
18. Anything else not listed here should be for free, or cheaper than anyone else on the Internet can sell it for.

True Chris but not when shipping is based on total spent. Not weight, size or address sent to. Which is the case here.

There is no good answer that is going to make everyone happy and I have been very happy here at AG. This is more of a rub for me verses being unhappy. Yes shipping is what it is and you just adjust your wants and your needs to accommodate them.

It's silly to suggest to purchase more than $95 just to get free shipping when they only wanted something that was less that $20 to begin with, are you serious? Let me spend more money overall just to say the shipping was free? That doesn't make any sense. I understand that's how the marketing works, but it's just that, marketing.

And for those that want to give the advise of plan your purchases, purchases during specials or BOGO's, etc...yeah in the real world sometimes you need one or two things right away, and can't plan everything ahead of time, so that advise is pointless.

I think this will be a never ending debate. Heres a great example on getting charged by shipping weight and not dollar amount. Lets say you order 2 gallons of Megs APC for $32.00. AG shipping is like $12.99. But if you want to pay UPS ground rate its about $18.00 up the east coast or $34.00($23.80 with volume discount) to the west coast.

As a business you cant customize each package and I understand that. The human capital would go up and the price we pay overall would go up. I hate to say it but there is other vendors we all can buy from that offer cheaper or free shipping, but I assure you wont find the same variety.

Sorry for the rant I see to many of these threads....I see that prices here and other places are really similar... And service here is amazing.

Very true, UPS has a residental fee & a Business fee (business reduced accordingly), however, I didn't see anyone mention insurance? Unless I skipped it over while reading.

I am willing to be AGO placing insurance on all packages that go out. This protects them incase of damage, and allows AGO to reclaim the cost of the material (not the selling price). This will raise it as insurance is based more upon $ vs lbs.

If they didn't do that, then the best UPS will repay on a damaged item is $100.00 usually
