getting rid of a foggy look

I have just painted a 65 mustang in candy apple red. ending with 4 coats of clear. The finish came out really clear an crystal like shine. But with some orange peal. after sanding the finish with 2000 grit paper no sanding or swirl marks were visible. Then I buffed it with Meguiar's Ultimate compound then with ultimate polish. I still ended up with a fogy finish I can actually see the path my polisher took. Can you point to what I am doing wrong. This is the first time I have run into this problem and also the first time I actually put on a base coat, candy coat and clear finish.
 
Sounds like the polish dried quickly while polishing and the residue hardened and didn't wipe off. Try a very quick polish again over the foggy areas and see if it is removed.
 
just tried a repolish wiped it with a dry clean microfiber towel ended up with the same results. This is a different paint I tried "Autobahn" . Is it possible that this clear coat is soft. Not as hard as lets say PPG or Dupont? Or should I wash polish off with clean or soapy water? Does eguiar's polish have a shelf life? As you can probably tell I am at a loss. A month ago I finished a 1976 El Camino in Blue metallic and a clear coat and it came out just great.
 
Put your nose right up to the car and see if you can smell anything
Maybe paint not dry yet
 
Can you post a close up pic?

Could be a lot of different possibilities.

1. Working too big of a section and product is drying.
2. Micromarring.
3. Residue control.
4. Try different pad polish/compound combo.
5. What type machine are you using to polish?
6. Were the 2000 grit scratches removed and now it's just foggy?
7. Did you hand or machine sand?
8. Paint fully cured?
9. Was the sand paper gummy with sanding residue?
