Getting rid of BO and Cologne smell

over the weekend I cleaned the front seats and all front leather surfaces with lexol and conditioned them. i also lightly sprayed meguiars #23 around the carpets. It's better but still there. I ordered a new microfilter. I have a feeling a lot of the smell is coming form there - can I spray the meguiars stuff direclty into the vents? what about having the car run on recirculate w/o the microfilter and just spraying it into the pipes at the source so it carries through? any risk of damage of anything? how do you normally get smell out of vents?
Also, is there an air freshener that's really really mild? I hate over the top fake scents. I had one of those japanese squash things years back and it was ok but i'd prefer even less .. just something fresh and subtle (if all else fails that is - if I can just get a "no smell" car, that'd be the best)

Before you try to mask the smell, see how the microfilter works.

did you try this: Wurth A/C & Heating System Treatment 6 oz.
i have used this before with good results. Im blanking out on the mfg but i remember seeing some where about a foaming duct and evap cleaner, i know bg chem sold it but i belive AG sold something simular. Smells are one thing that will be a pita but once you remove the odor you will be very happy

spray odor spray into heater intake vent by front windshield have a/c on reculate nad on low speed

where exactly are the intakes? pic?

Well usually the outside fresh air intakes are below the wiper cowl, so those "drainage" vents have a multi function of draining water and providing air (I know that if I spray 303 on the wiper cowl, it dribbles down to the intake and the car STINKS of it for a few days so I now wipe it on).

For the recycle air, there should be an intake next to the floor vent. If you have a look you should see both, just use your hand to feel which one is blowing air and which one is sucking- make sure it's on recycle air otherwise you'll prob not feel any sucking.

sprayed a bunch of dakota non-smoke in the car.. man that stuff smells like roach spray... left the car w/ windows and sunroof open for a few hours and still smelled it when i came back.. i really hope this crap airs out

I just have to say, when I read this post the first thing that popped in my head was that episode of Sienfield when the valet had bad BO and Jerry couldn't get the smell out of his car!!!

Yeah - me too :) except i gotta deal with it. so the latest is this - good news is that i can no longer detect any of the smells that were there... bad news is that it's cause of the dakota no smoke - it is SO freaking strong and terrible smelling that I think the smoke smell was better! It's awful. It smells like a public bathroom that's been treated for roaches. It's just really really bad. can someone please tell me if this crap will leave? It's hard to drive with the windows down when it's below freezing (even though I did part of the way to work today). I am really upset at this, since the product is so highly rated. I did not spray a lot of it either.

I've been fighting a few stinks in my new beater, a 1998 Honda Accord. There was a funky smell coming from somewhere. The previous owner was NOT a smoker, but suspected the original owner was since there were some cig burns on the seats and arm rests. Wow was I right! I took apart the center console to adjust the parking brake and found a nest of cigarette butts that must have fallen between the cup holder lid and parking brake lever. Yeeeesh the smell was aweful. I used my shop vac and some M151 to get eveything clean and the cab smelled less musty. I was checking the spare tire in the trunk and found a old puddle of sticky goo that must have been soy sauce or something else nasty. M151 to the rescue and now the trunk doesn't stink.

Well I just got my new ozone machine and let it run in the car for 2 hours. I unplugged the machine and locked up the car for the night. I checked it a couple hours later and it still smells kinda strong, so I'm going to check on it tomorrow morning. If it can kill the funk in my shoes it should work great in the car. I'll post an update!

I have the perfect combo for you. I am an IICRC certified technician (in the carpet cleaning industry) and the (2) things you need are "Unsmoke" and "Kill Odor" both of which are available at Jon-Don which is a retail chemical supplier for the carpet, upholstery, and tile industry.

Procedure (B) would be to simply have someone slap an ozone generator in your car with the windows closed for about 4-6 hours. That will suffocate the bacteria causing the odor.

Hope that helps.

I've bought a second hand car and it smells like cologne but mainly sweat !

I've tried vacuuming the car, got new carpet mats installed.

Any other suggestions ?

Did you exhaust all the suggestions made six years ago??

I have to change the cabin filter ( got a charcoal one on order) but i'm wondering if I don't change all this at once will the smell go into the new products ?

I'm a bit confused by the baking soda and vinegar method? My seats are leather so i've ordered some lexol. The seats seem to have some black armorall like product on them which i'm presuming the dealers "detailer" used. A o-zone machine is expensive around me to hire but failing all these methods i'll hire one. I think the smell must be in the seats since they are leather and he was a gym junkie.

Will an O zone machine work on leather ?
