Getting rid of "New Car Smell"

Has anyone tried an Ozone machine?

I have a company that I sub my ozone work out to and when I called him on this one his response was that there is very slim chance that it would work as it is a chemical venting problem and not an organic odor issue. Even once the initial smell is removed, the chemicals will just continue to do their thing and the odor would return.

The new car smell is amazing as for me and I wish drivers feel new car smell as often as it could be, upgrading their cars.lol. Speaking about the problem you pointed here I'd like to say, what about ionizer? I know that some people buy and use ionizer to reduce new car smell. Will your friend have no health problems with using ionizer?

Good point. I was just thinking out loud. I guess the best solution is to leave the windows down on a hot day and use some sort of air blower and allow the plastics and adhesives to out-gas.

Have you tried baking soda? I've had good success removing stubborn odors with baking soda. Arm&Hammer makes a refrigerator box that opens front and back to allow air passage and not spill and it works pretty well in a car. Toss a couple boxes under the front seat and leave it there for a few weeks. You can also sprinkle some on the carpet and brush it in and vacuum it up.

Maybe this?

So2Pure totally decomposes the microscopic remnants of the odor molecules and releases them into harmless gas and water vapor. So2Pure works on any odor, including odors caused by smoke, tobacco, gas fumes, diesel, smog, allergens, chemical off-gassing from plastics, and more.

CarPro So2Pure Air Purifying Coating 120 ml.

How about lighting up a cigar and driving for an hour with the windows up?

Thanks. I may give this a shot. Even if it doesn't work for this it will be a good product to have on hand.

I am ordering today so hopefully next weekend I will be applying it. I will do a write up from start to finish.

This post makes me want to start my own post "how to induce swirls and make my car look old"...lol...just kidding!

Please, write in the topic after you tried, ok? Good luck in solving the problem.

Will do. If this works on the chemical smell, it will be a great tool to have in the arsenal.

Well, my So2Pure is arriving today. I will not, however be using it on the client's car. I received an email that I can only describe as "bat_hit crazy" stating that client was "awakened by something" telling her not to use it in her car. For what it's worth, I am going to try it out on my hockey gear and see if it works. Will also probably try it out on various things around the house until I get a client who needs a deodorizer... Oh well. I will post my results.

Almost forgot about this sure-fire way to get rid of that: "New Car Smell":
