Getting to be a Pet Peeve..."Partial Reviews"

For example: I used 25ml of Permanon Platinum on my 2012 Camaro? My cost of application was $9 (100ml cost me $25.99)

Just thoughts about the information I find helpful in the complete reviews found on AGO.
WOW I should probably cancel my membership. I would have figured that cost per app to be $6.50. Shows what I know!!

This is the review that made me post:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...emical-guys-second-skin-6-hybrid-coating.html

It is by AGO staff and promises a follow-up.

I admit, I would be a terrible reviewer, because I could never leave a coating completely alone for the duration of the testing.

I do appreciate any review, but I hope the initial post can serve as some form of guidance for future reviews regarding all the questions that we all have when making an educated purchase decision.

Hey guys sorry for the lack of updates on the Chemical Guys Second Skin 6 Hybrid Coating thread the owner of the Mustang actually traded it for a newer one. I am sure the dealer was surprised at how great it looked.

I uhhh...dropped the bottle

Your math is correct

I wouldn't be upset if reviews/partial reviews could include the following:

-Differentiating between:
Dry, haze, cure, total-cure...and any associated times.

-Temperature ranges for ambient, and vehicle panels/components/etc.:
During a reviewer's application/removal processes vs manufacturers' recommendations.

-What ultimately defines durability to a reviewer.

Agreed

The more information the better, be it objective or subjective; I will read it all.

A couple other types of partial reviews are the "drive-by shooting" and the "black sheep."

The drive-by shooting is the person responding to a thread about a product with a one-liner saying product xyz is crap (or is the greatest product ever), without any explanation.

The black sheep is the person who dislikes a product that countless dozens of other people like, also with very little information.

Usually, for products where there are varying opinions, there may be only one or two people with bad experiences while dozens of others had good experiences. Unfortunately you often see the person asking the question putting too much weight on the couple bad experiences, which might be more about technique than the product.

So it's sometimes a good idea to throw out the overly gushing reviews and the bad reviews, and drop a plumb bob in the middle of what remains to get the most likely answer. That'll work more times than not.

DA reviews have to be the most bizarre collection of contradictory experiences of all.

I give anyone credit for even taking the time to write one for everyone to read. I don't do reviews lack of time and I'm not could at writing them.

Have to agree with this.. no one gets paid to review detailing products. Be thankful that people are taking time out of their day to share information no matter how small for your benefit.

Agreed.

If I just tried out a brand new product I waited a while to try and I just loved using it where else can I go to share some quick initial thoughtS? My parents won't care that a certain wax was easier to use than another. My sister doesn't care how effortlessly a certain soap glides over paint. We come here because we all care about this stuff and we get excited sharing it with like minded people.

Personally though I don't care about longevity. I personally like the look and feel of a fresh coat of wax or sealant.

I really enjoy the AGO Forum and have learned so much from the Members. I tend to rely on the excellent reviews of Senior Members when making purchases.

That's always nice to hear from our members...

I really dislike what I will call a "Partial Review"

Just to note, this isn't a review, but just my comments about two new products as to,

When to use them and why to use them...

Black Label Coating Detailer & Booster - Synergistic Chemical Compatibility

I clearly stated that after using the BL coating on probably as many if not more cars than anyone that the FIRST thought that comes to my mind is HOW TO MAINTAIN the results.

I'm a systems guy, always have been and always will be as it just makes sense to me. I coined the term as it relates to car detailing,

Synergistic Chemical Compatibility

Back in around 2005 when the hot topic for the day was layering as it relates to the topic of whether glazes or fillers affect the bonding of a car wax. And I haven't changed the way I think about staying inside a system before that article nor after.

Point being, after doing all the work it takes to,

  1. Wash and dry a car
  2. Chemically decontaminate the paint
  3. Mechanically decontaminate the paint
  4. Correct the paint
  5. Polish the paint
  6. Chemically strip the paint
  7. Apply the coating
After all the time, energy, grunt labor and yes passion that goes into most car detailing projects. When it's all over and the final wipe has been made, the next thing my brain wonders is...

Now how do I take care of this coating?

or

Now how does my customer take care of this coating?

And for this reason as well as a few others I wrote the above article to share two new products that answer those two questions.

As as SonOfOc posted....

Partial reviews are bad, but framed bias reviews from manufactures or their representatives are the worst!

Ones with near perfect condition paint that is somehow painstakingly brought back to life with glowing review of the product.

In my thread I linked to above...

Yes! The paint on the El Camino was about 96% perfect.

Keep in mind approximately 16 people buffed it out and most of them had NEVER used the Rupes system before. So in my book, 96% success is pretty good.

BUT as I documented, time went by and the car was parked outside, so the paint became dusty.

And that's when you use a spray detailer.

And because so many people get confused as to when to use a spray wax or if a spray wax can be used in place of a spray detailer, (it can't), I walked through the process of using these two new maintenance products in an attempt to provide a little product awareness plus some info/education.

But yes.... the paint on the El Camino was in near perfect condition before we removed the dust and applied the booster product.

So if you don't like partial reviews.... you're not going to like the article I wrote on the new Black Label Diamond Coating Detailer and Black Label Diamond Coating Booster.

Sorry...

But man the paint on this El Camino looks awesome...

Carry on with your discussion... it's going well....
