GG 6" Pad Question

GG 6" DA w/5 inch backing plate ordered and is en route. I have 2 questions. I have combed over copious threads and feel prepared by all the great posts on polishing. The pad choice is a little bit less clear so let me share the intended use. I'd be interested in hearing some thoughts from you out there.

1st time user of a polisher that will be maintaining 2 white cars. One is a new vw Passat, paint in great condition, not much correction needed. The other is a 2014 acrua MDX that has light scratches everywhere / spider webbing.

I have a 32 oz bottle of Wolfgang Uber AIO so I want to use that and keep it simple by not ordering other product if possible. Plan to top with Colinite 845, or Leno Hand Wax. I do clay bar and iron-x to prep surface before doing getting started.

Ordered the autogeek bundle that includes with 5 inch backing plate and the griot's 5.5" orange foam, 6.5" black foam and 6.5" red foam, one of each.

What is logical choice of pad selection for my situation?
 
The red and black are very similar. You should have a white for polishing. You cannot polish an entire car with one (color) pad. I would get at least 3 orange and 3 white.

Great question. You've done your homework.


The goal when using a one-step cleaner/wax, which is what the Wolfgang AIO is - is to avoid the shadow-effect (micro-marring), when using a one-step on dark colored paints that can be caused by either,

The abrasive technology
The pad

And the key point is, if it happens to black and dark colored paints it's happening to white and light colored paints it's just your eyes can't see it.


So the best pad is to try to use a polishing pad. In order of aggressiveness with most aggressive to least aggressive,

Foam cutting
Foam polishing<--
Foam finishing
Foam waxing

So test the Griot's orange pad and see how the paint looks.

Helpful feedback on both accounts that will make it easy to order some more pads. Appreciate the guidance guys.
 
Hello everyone,
I have a similar question. I have bought Griots Garage 5” conversation kit. I am confused between orange and black pads. I am having Meguiars ultimate polish and compound.
Orange pad is to be used for polishing or the black one?
And what for compound ?
 
try using the ultimate compound with the orange pad and ultimate polish with the black pad...
 
the LC white (polishing) pad is right in between the orange and black pad. each paint reacts different so the white pad may be all that's needed with a polish. do a test spot, it would be a good idea to have a handful of different pads as you don't know what to expect...
