GG boss 21.....or 15??

Wanting to get a new DA right now I have the GG6 but wanting to upgrade and want to keep it in the griot family, have been hearing a lot of bad things with running a 21mm throw machine like pad rotation is not that good unless it's a complete flat surface and thought that maybe running with the 15 would work better on curved areas, for everyone that runs these machines what one do u prefer?

I prefer the larger pad on the Griot's BOSS 21


I share a technique that I use to make the RUPES 21 wit a 7" pad dance on any shaped panel on page 64 of my RUPES book and this same technique works with the BOSS 21.

All the techniques I share in the RUPES book for their BigFoot 21 and BigFoot 15 would apply to the Griot's BOSS tools.


I taught myself this technique from my experience using a rotary buffer and spending time behind the RUPES BigFoot 21 and learning to overcome the normal stalling characteristic of free spinning tools. Note - the technique does not work with any tool, just long stroke orbitals with enough pad overhang in relationship to the back of the backing plate.

I show this in all my RUPES and Griot's classes too.

It's real simple... crank the too up to high speed and then go up on edge. The pad will reverse rotate but IT WILL ROTATE even under pressure on a thin or curved panel. Thus I can buff out any shape panel using the largest pad and a single tool.


Simple Simon stuff if you're willing to invest the time behind the buffer.

Thanks mike I'll have to educate myself with your rupes book, and funny because at times I do that with my gg6 right now if it stops spinning on a curved panel I'll simple put more power to the tool to get the correction I want and kick it back down
