She bought me this kit for Christmas.:)

Griot’s Garage Random Orbital Perfect Starter Kit

Kit includes:
Griot's Garage 6 Inch Random Orbital Polisher
CCS Orange Light Cutting Foam Pad, 6.5 inches
CCS White Polishing Foam Pad, 6.5 inches
CCS Blue Finessing Foam Pad, 6.5 inches
Wolfgang Pad Werks Polishing Pad Cleaner
Wolfgang Pad Werks Polishing Pad Conditioner
2 Microfiber Polishing Towels (16 x 16 inches)
I was thinking of purchasing the following kit to compliment the above. Keep in mind I've never used a polisher before, so I need something beginner friendly. lol

Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit, paint correction kit, dual action polishing kit

I own a 2012 Cadillac CTS-V with very minor swirling. How is this Meguiars kit? Should I add more pads?

Any other recommendations?

The kit comes with a 5" backing plate and 5" pads but your GG6 kit already comes with 6.5 pads and 6" backing plate. Not sure if you want to add to your 6.5" pads rather then getting a new backing plate and pad sizing.

I would also get a pad conditioning brush and some more quality microfiber towels.

As for polishes/compounds.. That is purely personal preference. Just read around and see which system/brand you like and go for a compound and polish from them. The meguiars ones work. Well they all work.. I'd go for one that is easy to use.

You are also missing a wax or sealant for the last step. So you should probably look around and pick one you like.

Thanks for the response. I've been researching the last couple of days and the consensus on the forum is to go to the smaller(5") backing plate with 5.5" pads.

I've used and like Pinnacle products.

I'll research some more. I'm trying to take advantage of the 15% and free shipping over $95.

The kit you have will be great for your first time out, get some Megs Ultimate Compound and polish to get some experience. You can build from there. I found the 5.5 inch foam pads were favorable after a while using the 6" that came with my GG6.

Griots one step sealant is also a nice product for minor paint imperfections.

You should get:

-LC 3" & 3.5" BPs
- an assortment of 3" & 3.5-4" pads
- WG polish trio
- pad cleaning brush
- some extra compression washers
- some very high quality towels to remove polish

:iagree:

- megs 105 and especially 205 are also great compound/polish
- menzerna FG400, SIP & SF4000 are great as well and very similar to the WG trio
-5" BP & 5.5" pads are great cause there all those panels that a 6.5" is to big but 3-4" pads are too small, but its not that big an issue, some people feel that they are also easier to control for beginners, i just recenly invested in 5.5" pads lol

there is so many options that it is overwhelming so try to start out small and find out what works best for you :buffing:

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I have to be honest, I feel a little overwhelmed. The more I research the difficult my decision becomes. lol

I decided on the following:

I recommended such small pads because you will likely find some places you can not buff with 5" pads. It's just impossible on some cars to do it properly without the pad over hanging into something else.

This is especially true on roadster style and sports cars. Bumpers, pillars, around emblems, areas around the sunroof, etc... may all be impossible to buff correctly with larger pads IME.

BTW I think there is a 20 percent off coupon right now for VIP.

I don't think the GG6 takes 4" pads does it?

Does the 5" backing plate not already come with compression washers?

Looks good to me. Though you could probably use black pads to apply wax as well leaving you to get one more orange or white.

Don't know too much about the Wolfgang finishing glaze but from the name I'd assume its a glaze? You would probably want a compound and a polish. You might want more towels BTW. Look around - there are speciality stores that sell MF towels in bulk.

Yes definitely add at least 3" or 3.5" BP and 3-4" pads

The GG6 can work with 3"-6.5" pads, depending what BP is installed. WG FG is a fine polish (not a traditional glaze). However, it does "fill", because I've seen it with the two eyes in my head. Call it "filling", paint swelling, or an optical illusion - it can mask defects. But, it's likely not an issue. It's similar to Menz SF 4000.

and honestly, if you use it with a gray/blue pad it finishes dam good.

Yes, that is a good start. I am fairly new to this also made my first order back in September.
And yes it can be overwhelming. I forgot things, wanted and needed others, ended up with three orders. As being new to this it is hard to remember everything or know what I needed. Be patient it will all come to you. You have a good foundation and can add to that.

I only got to do a correction on my truck and still have my dads Yukon and 21' bass boat to do. The weather here has been cold, snowy or raining. So I have not been able to do anything. LOL Serious case of cabin fever going on here.

Anyway try not to second guess your product selection there are a lot of great products out there that will do just about the same job, I am learning. People are helpful here and share their experience with the products that they use.

As I stated I am new to this and the GG6 was my first DA polisher purchase and I can tell you that it is easy to use. It did a great job on my 2004 Chevy Silverado.

Any questions let me know on here or PM me if you wish. :props:

^^^You seem to have your "nexts", (for detailing with the GG 6"), pretty much in order.^^^

Now...On to the other "What to get next:?

Your girlfriend sounds like a keeper.

I don't have the GG6 but you should make sure that backing plate fits. If it was me I wouldn't get so much black and blue pads. The polish and compound pads are the ones you go through.

And I swear these backing plates already come with compression washers so I don't think you need more unless you loose them.
