hehehhehehe Ay that bug!! That poor bug hasn't been washed since I detailed it. :( It looks all cruddy again. I told the owner when we went over the car together after the detail that he had clearcoat failure and he had to keep it protected at all times, especially with a black car in south Florida, but alas, he hasn't touched it. I offered to maintain it for him since he is my neighbor it wouldn't be any bother for me to wash it and slap a coat of wax on it every few weeks but he said, "oh no I'll take care of it". Yeah right. But I tell myself, at least one time in it's little life it got to shine and get pampered the way it deserved. He had wanted me to do his wife's car as well and he still hasn't given me the word to start work on it yet. I wonder if it is a financial thing because he seemed very pleased with my work when I returned the car to him, but he hasn't given me the other job yet.
Oh well, asi es la vida a veces. I still have that red taco coming up though in January and mommy is coming back to visit this week and wants me to do her car while she's here so I should have some new pics for you guys and gals. :)

 What not even a wash on that gorgeous bug? No way!!! Poor thing, after all that hard work it's gone back to it’s former state...shame, shame.

Yup, FloridaNative is the one that hooked me and reeled me in.

Question for you, how do you know when you have clearcoat failure? Is it something you can see or run you fingers and feel??

Regarding clearcoat breakthrough/failure, in my experience, there are two ways to detect it:

1. when you polish you see color coming off on your pad or towel.

2. visually, you sometimes can see some discoloration where the clear has worn away....it may be alittle less bright or glossy...kind of blotchy.

Also, remember that although the PC is very forgiving, it does have to remove some clear (albeit in very small increments) to diminish swirls/scratches. So even using a PC can eventually (over many, many polishings) break through the clear. Hence, the advice, to start least aggressive and perhaps live with some stubborn swirls/scratches....JMO.

I know, I know!! It breaks my heart to see that bug covered in bird poop again and looking so nasty. I even gave him a can of invisible glass and told him he could have all of my sheepskin wash mitts since I don't use them anymore now that I have my shmitt. He took the invisible glass, but not the wash mitts and he's never washed it. :( As much as it bothers me though, I just have to tell myself that it is his car not mine. (I have to say this like a mantra!! :p ) Sometimes I find myself tempted to sneak out in the night and wash it, but first off I think my husband would finally have those guys in white coats come and get me for good and second of all it would just be a temporary fix because I know this guy will not wash his car. I realize that everybody's relationship with their car is different and to alot of people their car is just a "thing" that gets them from point A to point B. They don't feel the emotional attachment to the car the way that I do and I have to put my own feelings aside and say to myself, "it's his car". :(

As far as the clearcoat failure, on the hood and roof and fenders of that bug there were defects in the paint that looked "feathery" I guess is the best way I can describe it. Just picture what your car would look like if you Qd'd it with a lint laden MF and it left lint all over your hood how that would look, now picture the look of all that in the clear coat and that is how his clear coat was where it was failing. In the places where the clear coat was already gone there were blotches of dull paint with a different tone in color. When I polished those areas my pad was black where I was polishing the color coat. It's a friggin shame, but what can you do?

lol I feel so honored to have been the one "to reel you in" lol. And I wasn't even wearing my bikini!! Go me! :awesome: :p hehehhehehehehe

You gave him some products and he still didn't was the car, wow can you say lazy! I sure can but your re correct, some people see there vehicles as just objects to get around. To bad.

Your funny, washing his car in the middle of the night hahaha I could see you do that too. I can see it now on the news, "A bizarre case of a home owner phoning the cops because he thought the car was being stolen, it turns out that the neighbor was just washing it in the middle of the night"....hahaha.

Thank you for the description, it makes a sense. I'll keep my eye out for this on my vehicles.

You mean I could of had you in a BIKINI...dough, I should have put up a fight darn (snapping fingers).

Oh he would probably love it if I washed it in the night! Then he doesn't have to do it!

Glad to help. :)
