I have noticed that many detailers on this forum use a 50/50 alcohol mix or PrepSol to rid the paint of polishing oils before using a synthetic sealant. I understand this is to allow the sealant to properly bond to the paint.

My question is: Does this nullify the use of a glaze and synthetic sealant together since the glaze has oils in it?

Yes. The sealant will not properly bond to the paint do to the oils in the glaze.

It depends on the glaze you're using
There are some glazes that contain acrylic polymers like Prima Amigo and DWG that will be compatible (bonding) with a sealant...

Prepsol / Acrysol / and even iso alcohol will remove a glaze and will remove most/all of a sealant.

but i thought most people apply DWG after a sealant??hmm iv never used a 50/50 alch/h2o mix after i was done polishing.i just put the wax or sealant on after i wipped everything off and i didnt notice any problems.

DWG can be put on before or after a sealant after curing. Final wipe down with alcohol or prep sol is to eliminate any oils that is left on your paint after polishing. Just wiping would probably not get all the oils and fine dust off your paint. I'm sure it took you alot of time prepping your car for polishing, that is washing, claying, drying, etc. Why not take that extra step to get the best finish possible.

no it does not nullify the use of glaze/sealant combo. you do the wipe down after polishing and before using glaze. so the alcohol is gone when the oils from the glaze is put to the finish. and like a few have said there are a few glazes that will not give any bonding problems. there are also glazes(surf city) that can go on top of your lsp.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Are Prima Amigo and DWG the only synthetic sealant "friendly" glazes? I have heard nothing but good things about the DWG.

Prima, and DWG is what I use for glaze whenever I like to, but I'm not aware of any other glaze that does the same
Pinnacle XMT-360 though not a glaze, it looks great topped with a sealant...I love the results of that with 1Z Glanz Wax on top
Sometimes I use XMT-360 in place of glaze

Danase Wet Glaze - a pure gloss enhancer (i.e. non-abrasive and with a low solvent content); it’s formulated with acrylic polymers that form a covalent bond to polymer sealant without any bonding issues - Produces a very 'wet' look -

I forgot all about Opti-Seal. Its a great sealant, and can be layered over pretty much anything. Currently its my LSP over Souveran.

There are also sealants that are exceptions to the bonding over a wax or glaze. The general rule of thumb is if you apply a sealant over anything but clean fresh paint you risk a smear fest. Hard to keep track of them.
