Well, finally going to Detail King's 2 day training this weekend in Pittsburgh. Going to try to start my own mobile business. I love cleaning and detailing cars and this seems a logical fit.

I've been researching them and they seem to have a reputable name.

I doubt the Mods here will appreciate the link to their competition :nomore:

The fact is they educate people to detail and then sell them on products they carry.

whoops sorry mods didnt notice they also sold products

Why are you apologizing? Your not the one who laid down the link

OP, as long as this is already out there. Do you mind telling what this company charges for two days of training and what does it cover?

Thanks,

Imho, I checked out DG's web-site and found it extremely "busy" and "ghetto". Also, they really "push" their products. I only live about an 1 1/2 from Pittsburgh and even for the few hundred bucks they want, I am going to spend close to a grand to fly down to Stuart Fla. for AG's 2-day class. That's how strongly I feel about Mike and the whole AG family. Again, this my personal feelings.

I'm going to their 3-day class in June. I would have preferred to go to AG or Renny Doyle's class, but I don't like to fly so I opted to go to the only place in the Pittsburgh area I know of. I certainly do hope it's worth it.

Do you mind sharing how much these classes cost?

I agree with stating that detail king pushes products that are almost identical to auto geeks, but only more expensive. Their website is ghetto as stated above and their reps push products that they are not knowledgable about. I am a lifer for auto geek and they have not let me down once in over 3 years!!

I went to the 2 day class couple years ago. Enjoyed it while I was there. For me one benefit was being able to get my hands on a rotary. The other benefit I found being totally new to detailing at that point was they demonstrated a process, where to start, where to finish and how to save time in between. That was valuable info for a noob. The shop training was, (upon reflection after i came home), a demonstration of the products they sell. Which is fine they sell products what would you expect. I would imagine AG doesn't demonstrate products they DON'T sell so cant really fault them for that. What i missed was in depth training on how to detail a car using buffers, wet sanding, assessing the paint surface to identify what the best approach would be for correction etc. Although they touch on these areas its brief and very surface information. Being honest I told my wife when we got back that I'd probably learned as much if not more from the AG forum then I did at the class. Oh well still good experience. I will say that if you are looking to start your own business the first day classroom session is pretty good. Lots of info about how to go about it, legal stuff, how to network yourself, how to get started etc. So that part I would say they did pretty good. I still say what I've learned here on AG far outweighs what I've learned anywhere else. Unfortunately I've never been to one of Mike P's classes but from what I've seen and read, hopefully there a little more in depth. At the time I went, Mike wasn't at AG yet and being from Baltimore, California was a little far for auto detail training. Pittsburgh was the closest place I could find at the time. If I had it to do over again I'd be in Florida in a heart beat.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking into going to a class. Maybe I should look around some more.
Renny Doyle's class looks like it would be pretty good too. I didnt notice that AG did a class. Ill be looking into that in a min!
I really do love this forum!

Oh that not that bad. I would also like to attend to one of these detailing classes, but I can't find any one that is close to me.

Tell us how it is.
