Going to pull the trigger on my first DA

I believe that chart is a good indicator of my Confusion. If I am going to use a non abrasive fine finishing polish do you use the white polish pad, the polish finish pad, or the finish pad. Hahaha I'm sorry if I'm an idiot here.

OP, Welcome to the DA world. Great choice to step up. I am not familiar with the DA Meguiar's unit your talking about but I have the Porter Cable 7424 XP DA and absolutely love it. I would highly recommend this DA unit. I do detailing on the side and use my Porter Cable DA and it works great.

I worked on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am that has never been detailed, clay bar or waxed. This paint was a train wreck. I used my Porter Cable 7424 XP on it. Here are the results of this train wreck. Ha ha ha

Yes, Rupes is a DA. I should have been more precise. the rupes units have a larger "throw" that the traditional 8mm throw DA's like PCXP, GG, Megs v2, (Harbor Freight, not sure) and pretty much all of them I think before Rupes came out. I was putting the Rupes in a different category than those because of the larger throw, but yes it is a dual action, non forced rotation machine. Sorry if any confusion.

Is optimum finish polish considered a smat then? this is a polish I was originally looking at.

Since I will be applying a coat after I don't know if that matters.

I thought i read somewhere, sometime ago that Optimum uses SMATs but PLEASE...someone correct me if i am wrong.

And if Opt Final Polish is a SMAT, consider the fact, like Megs 205, it uses super refined smaller "unbreakables" to yield LSP ready finishes. You just don't work it forever like breaking down a DAT.

And before finding and now using CarPro Eraser, i ALWAYS would do a good IPA wipedown before LSP application. Now CarPro Eraser does that for me soooo much better.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics. I'm stuck between wolfgang finishing glaze, menzerna 4000 or 4500 (difference? ) or optimum polish II or their finishing polish, and pinnacle is still in the back of my mind.. My maxima is near perfect so it doesn't need anything more than a nice prep for the coat.

I do have one rice sized clear coat scratch by the door that I can feel with my nail. Makes me sick, no paint loss just clear. Any tips on that?
