Going to take a little work but decent shop.

Congrats... looks cool to me. It's a major plus you can do some repair work, washing, and detailing all-in-one shot, definitely a win/win!

Yesterday, I rented a 12'x30' storage unit w/14' ceilings & wide entry door for $30 (*1st month free). I was planning to build a loft inside to maximize space, but not too sure if the management will like me doing detailing work there?

*Obviously, a storage unit gets no direct traffic exposure and will prob be a big PITA bringing clients in/out, but for now it'll do. The upside is it's only $260 month, and most places offer up that first month free.

However, I need to find a stand alone building/warehouse like that before years end.

BTW, the Craftsman compressor and air tools look good too! -Some major potential there man. First thing I'd do is "lose" the electrical outlets wired to that metal desk tho, LOL

Dave, once again, CONGRATS on this! The shop looks great and I'm sure when you're done with it it will be amazing! Good luck Dave!

Good stuff man! Congrats and goodluck!!!
Thanks Anthony!! I may need to pick your brain on the most efficient bus processes.
Thanks, Dave, for taking the time to answer my inquiries.

Here's hoping everything works out for you, and we know it will.

PS. Also...Good to hear the news of you scoring the 'bus deal'!

:)

Bob
You're welcome Bob.

It not bad bro. I wish i had that shop. Its not what your shop looks like but what comes out of the shop and what it looks like.
Only ever get one chance to make a first impression so the shop will eventually and I hope rather quickly look good.

A diamond in the rough Dave!

There is a ton of potential there and once you get it just the way you want it I can only imagine how great it'll look!!

Thanks for the photos Dave! :props:
I just went to Lowes and bought a couple of T-8 fixtures and the goodies to wire them in on their own separate circuit and switched on each side as well. Made the mistake of walking down the isle with the shop cabinets and stuff. If I only had the money...

Thanks, I hope that works out for you. I can see where that might be tricky for the customers.

The clowns that had that shop before me put those things there. They just added the conduit yo a piece of romex on the ceiling with wire nuts and no junction box or anything. I got J-boxes and blank plates to eliminate them. They are gone tonight.

Those clowns have other stuff just bugged together with no J-boxes too so I grabbed a half a dozen boxes to make that stuff right too.

Thanks alko!!
See if he will flip the bill for sheetrock if you do the labor
Great minds think alike Flash, I was just thinking that but then my mind went from sheetrock to white peg board.

For floor paint get real epoxy. Lowes sells a real GOOD product for $199 that does a 2.5 garage. Doesn't come with clear but to save money you don't really need it, has enough shine w/o clear. But one very important thing about floor coating is getting the floor Clean, use a ton of muradic acid(pool acid) works just like that expensive concrete cleaner. I used epoxy coat in two garages one where I work on my truck and gets ABUSED. If you have any questions pm me.

Sheetrocking will help alot to keep dust down to a minimum. Not to mention spider webs and insects.

Spiders just love holes in peg board. Just a thought...

...because I hate spiders.

It has a lot of potential Dave.

What a long day. I got a lot accomplished though. I cleaned and organized the top loft storage room and put all the van and bus parts up there and some other stuff that belongs either to the owner or the last tenants. No pics of up there but here are a few pics of the progress I made today. I wired 2 T-8 4 foot light fixtures on their own circuit. (both on same circuit) Since there is no garage door opener but a circuit there for one, I dropped two runs of 14-2 romex into the door opener box and run one down to a switch under each light so that I can turn just one on or 2 or have them off when I really don't need them. 13 hours of cleaning and removing junk and organizing what was to stay. Replaced a few bats of insulation that were hanging down and sealed off the gable vents with styrofoam because the cold wind was blowing right in through them. Enjoy the pics. I'd say it's a major improvement.

This is with 2-1000 watt halogens turned on, one in each corner beside the overhead door.

This is without the halogens, 2 of the original fixtures are hidden above the opened overhead door.

The lighting is better than before but when I can, I'll replace the 4 T-12s with 4 T-8s and that should brighten things up a bit more. I might add 2 more T-8s in the center of the 4 other lights that are hanging from the rafters.

I'm going to start loading my stuff in there tomorrow. I have enough stuff to furnish that shop pretty well with tools and products. Right now I'm ready for a shower and some sleep. Thanks for looking. TD

Congratulations Dave. What town and off what hwy is it located? Check you local Sears. Ours recently had on close out sale some really nice shop cabinets and also interlocking flooring. 2 types one had a honeycomb type pattern the other was diamond plate. They were selling it at like 60% off.

Is there any option for heat? We got off easy this winter but that was not very typical. If not here is an idea to keep your products from freezing. My dad had a metal cabinet in our garage and in order to keep his welding rods dry he had a 100 watt bulb in there on all the time. Simple but it worked. You got a nice deal there for month to month As long as he doesn't give you short notice to vacate sometime, that's a sweet deal.

It's at the Lewisberry exit off interstate 83.

I'll keep my eye on that. I have a friend who works at Sears, maybe I can have her give me a heads up when that stuff goes on a deep sale. Thanks for the tip

There are options, but no heat in there now. The 2 halogens knocked some of the chill off yesterday but it wasn't crazy cold out, just windy. I thought of the light bulb in a cabinet trick too. Thanks.

Yeah, that would suck right. He benefits from me working there so as long as I continue to maintain his his fleet he should stay content with our agreement.

Updates? How did the weekend in the new shop go? Also, is that craftsman an oil-free compressor?

I'll have to get a few pics this week showing the shop. I bought a new heavy duty 5 drawer tool cart from Harbor Freight and put it together in there. I still have all my shelving here at the house that needs to be taken up there this week. Most of my products are here still and in my van. Anything I can't get MSDS for I'll be adding to my list of goodies to be given away. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...f-products-call-local-central-pa-members.html

I've been spending a good bit of time here on the computer posting to facebook and updating profiles at other sites. Got a few new customers from this already. Also been making new business cards and getting ready to work on a new brochure. Some time ago a virus killed my old computer and forum member KimTyson was nice enough to clean the viruses off of the hard drives for me but unfortunately all the content on my user account was destroyed, that included hundreds of hours worth of business card and brochure designs that I had created over the years. A costly lesson on backing up my content I guess.

My mobile rig has been running on 5 cylinders for a few months. Every time I got time to tear into the van to do some troubleshooting it would start raining. (I mean every time!!) This past Friday I set out to do the troubleshooting again, and again it started raining of course. This time I thumbed my nose at the rain and pulled the van into the shop and had at it. I found a spark plug wire had got against the exhaust manifold and burned through. It was long enough that I was able to cut off the burned section and re-crimp the end back on. The van feels brand new now.

I love having the shop but just as Rome wasn't built in a day, neither will my shop be. I'll get back on it tomorrow after work.

The air compressor is oil free. Eventually I'll buy a cast iron unit for the shop but this little oil free unit will work for now.

I thought so. It sounds like you're well aware that the oil free units don't have a very good track record for longevity. Don't want that thing to die on you and then be responsible for replacing an air compressor that isn't yours to keep. Don't push the duty cycle, watch out for heat, and don't let it go from loud to extra loud, lol! Shoot, I'm probably preaching to an expert on these things, you probably know more about them then I do!

thats nice bro i like it you have a great idea with a mobile and stationary shop money from both ends wow cool

I have a lot to move and organize yet but I am getting somewhere with it. It took most of the money I had to pay all the up front expenses to get into this shop so fixing it up is going to be just like the last 5 years of growing Tuscarora Dave's Mobile Auto Detailing, slow and hard.

I bought this to keep my most used tools in and I think I need another roll out tool cabinet to store the tools that I have in bags and boxes still. The other red box is crammed full of tools too.

025-19.jpg

I picked up this little cabinet today and put it together in there for my detailing tools and stuff. I want to get the adhesive backed velcro strips and line the inside of the doors with it so I can attach all my backing plates to it. I have 3 more product storage shelves to bring from the house yet.

Thanks for looking, I'll post another pic in about a week or so when I get a little more done in there. TD
