Good-bye Comcast and DirecTV...

I'll say I never once had an issue with my Fios internet service in the 4 years I had it. Unfortunately, the annual, and sometimes semi-annual price hikes are what did it. It went from $39.99/mo. (not a promotion) to $64.99/mo. just for internet. I'm sure it's over $70 at this point as I haven't used their service in nearly a year.

Man! That sucks!!!!! I'm not looking forward to that. If it gets out of hand, I'll cancel.

I don't get Nat Geo...I wish I did. I've become a history and science dork in my adult age.

Are you saying Fios doesn't have nat geo? It's one of the few channels I watch so I hope it's not missing from the lineup. I wish fios was in my area but the site says it can't find my address. Also I'm currently paying $55 for roadrunner Internet and it's good but keeps disconnecting me but fios looks like it worth the price.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Fios bills have an amazing way to be at least 50% more than you thought you'd pay. Their customer service is pretty bad, you have to go through several layers to talk to anyone that has a clue. Then there is the awesome DVR. It locks up, freezes, lags and all sorts of good stuff. My parents are on their fifth one in 3 years.

Watch out for cancelation fees from any provider. If you didn't specify against price hikes after so many months, or didn't specify cancellation if you have too many problems, you will pay for steep cancellation fees most likely.

Folks never read the fine print and get burned bad.

FIOS is basically Fiber Optic cable which is literately glass that carries light which is the signal. It can carry information much quicker and more of it than traditional cable.

Faster ways to get our money !

Ive had Fios and the thing that sucks is if you have internet and cable the HD programs and linked to the internet speed. So if you want the level 2 HD package they make you have the level 2 internet. Wouldnt so bad if the level 2 internet didnt cost $40 more a month, plus level 1 is way more than enough. I have Fios for internet and Directv for "cable" and never been more happy.

The FiOS installer left not too long ago. That was THE BEST customer service I've ever encountered, when dealing with a contractor. Bumcast, DirecTV, and ADT have been through my house and all were horrible. As the guy was stepping foot inside my house, he put footies on as to not track dirt in my house. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I told him how I wanted it hooked up and he did just that. I will be writing an email to his manager.

Now as far as the quality of the product itself....I notice a significant difference in the picture quality. My internet is fast as heck! I mean significantly fast. I told the guy that I wanted my router upstairs on the second level of my three story townhouse and he did just that. I couldn't be happier. Now lets just hope my bill is exactly what I expect it to be.

I just went BACk to Comcast after trying AT&T... If you think Comcast sux STAY CLEAR OF AT&T!
:iagree:Stuck with direct instead. With AT&T uverse the further you are from the main box, the worse your service is. My freind lives closer to it then me and gets to watch all tv's in the house and use the internet. Me being a few block away could only watch one HD tv at a time. I thought the guy was joking. I told him to get the F out of my house.

Well this news is not what I wanted to hear ^ I was just getting ready to switch to ATT at the end of this month

Maybe I'll just switch back to dial-up and call it done

That's what I always get with Dish Network. I've never had any problems with their customer service either over the phone or in person.

BTW, I'd give up a certain male body part that hangs on the left for FIOS internet! :props: I'm stuck with DSL in my area.

LMAO!!! Oh man that got me right there. The picture quality is significantly better and my internet is much faster! So far so good. We'll see when the bill gets here.

I'm still wondering how fast your guys internet speeds are. This would be the only advantage in getting FIOS over cable. The shows are not in better quality or anything, it may seem that way for some reason, but many cable companies still broadcast im 720p or 1080p where available. Same as FIOS.

It looks like the fastest download you can get is 50Mb/s which is roughly 6.25MB/s. That's fast, but it also depends on where you are downloading from. If their upload speed is slower than that you are capped. I pay around $60 for 25mb/s and the only time I really need that is torrents.

I will have to check to see what the actual speed is, but as far as picture quality goes, I see a significant difference in the overall quality of the picture.

Picture quality was so / so but the deal breaker was that our picture woudl freeze up on us..

My wife (like most) is not technically inclined with electronics and it got to be such a frequent issue that she was a pro at re-bootting the digital boxes in our house.

Customer service was great but that didn't make up for the poor service.

My speeds on FIOS are like 30mb down and 25 mb up.

The big issue with AT&T is they make their product out to sound like a FIOS type product, but having had them for 2 years, it is not. It's a high speed DSL system fed by their custom built fiber optic network, but at the end you have a max of maybe a 33MB connection which has to feed all 4 of your TV streams including up to 3 of those being "HD" plus your Internet. If you have a high enough Internet speed package, you actually lose speed if you have more than one HD show recording on the DVR. FIOS is different in that it's actually fiber to your house and you don't end up with those kinds of restrictions. Those restrictions are what gives AT&T the "soft" picture as well because of the poor codecs they are using to encode the TV with to get it to fit in the "pipe" along with your Interent. I moved recently and have Dish now and the TV picture is soooooooo much better.

As far as FIOS internet I actually have that at the new place as well. I'm renting a house where a friend of mine is the landlord, he was running a server out of the garage for a client and I agreed to let it stay since it meant free FIOS internet. Now, he could get faster download but because of the server which is streaming music for a local radio station, upload was more important. So, I get 25MB down, and 75MB UP. I'm happy with it though since I maintain a couple websites and so the upload speed is killer to have.

I'm guessing you host the sites on your server if you need faster upload.

Assuming that was directed at me. He's offered to let me set my sites up on his server since he has static IP addresses and I've thought about it, but it means a lot of research into setting up the software I'm using currently on my webhost for the sites and finding a suitable mail server software to handle my email. So for now, $50 every 3 months for 15GB of space (guaranteed not oversold) and 300GB of monthly bandwidth, unlimited emails & subdomains, and easy install/upgrade scripts for the software my sites use is something I'm fine with paying.
