Good caliper cleaner?

Meg's Wheel Bright 1:4 will clean your calipers good as new. Iron X type products just won't cut it.

Here is what WB can do (was cleaning rotor hats):

better than brake cleaner!

I would recommend you paint the rotor hats black as well. It will look much better and you will not see the dust build up like in the photos above.

Thx for all the feedback.
I will post pics when they are done.

For now, here is the before:

Oh My.... Those are hardly even dirty.. A quick dwell, brush and rinse with wheel brightner would clean those right up.

I have my home brew acid cleaner at about 20 cents a quart, makes rotors look just like that. It's unorthodox sure, but saves a ton of money and does just as well and better if needed and mixed a little stronger.

Google "Citra-Plus Gorham Maine".

That stuff forks wonders for non acid solution to caked on brake dust. It also removes the blooming off of tires better than anything else I've used to date.

If you're repainting and the calipers are off the car, some muriatic acid will clean that caked on brake dust right off but it's really nasty dangerous stuff so if you don't have the proper PPE I wouldn't use it.

If you do use the acid, follow it with an alkaline cleaner or baking soda to neutralize any residual acid that will be left behind in the casting.

You've got me interested in Citra-Plus. Also it seems to not be as harsh as other cleaners. Do you like it for tire cleaning?

Thought I'd update this thread...

Found my Sonax FE and used a toothbrush. This worked awesome:

@Tuscarora Dave- they were filthy to me

Painting in process. It was a pita getting them painted on all sides and not messing it up once you put them down.

When i painted my calipers, i had it hanging on a rod, so i can run around and paint all the corners and sides without messing up the paint that is not dry yet.

So u have a JCW Mini Monica?Originally red calipers, painting to black?

It works better on tires than anything I've used. Works great on wheels too.

I used to have it shipped in six gallon cases but the shipping was pretty steep so I've been on the search for something just as good at a low cost. Been testing different APCs for over a year now with no luck.

I need to take a road trip back up to Maine to see my buddy, forum member "Bill Buxton" and bring back a years worth of that cleaner.

Even after shipping though, it's still cheaper and more effective than most other cleaners while still being mild.

Looks like they're turning out nice and glossy. I typically hang stuff like that from a wire to paint it.

Hind-sight being 20-20 I should have hung them.
Oh well, live and learn :xyxthumbs:

@EvolutionDetail- no, I have an S.

These were a set I picked up used and cheap to upgrade the existing brakes.

And yes, no red goes on the car

I'll post more pics as I continue...

The way you have your car customized is awesome!! I know what you're doing with the brakes will no doubt add to that awesome look.

When you're "Concentrated Awesome", your car has to look the part too right?

Thx Dave :xyxthumbs:

Here they are painted..... I still want to touch them up before moving forward to the next step.
I'm going to let them dry for a few days.

How much does shipping run? I've been using zep fast 505 and nothing else has came close to the cleaning power it has on tires. Price is great too.

I've just started using Fast 505. Haven't used it on tires yet but diluted 31:1 it works nice for interiors.

Shipping a gallon or 2 is no big deal but when you're having 24 gallons of liquid shipped from Maine to Pennsylvania it gets a bit pricey. If I recall it was around $150-$200 for shipping on 4 cases with 6 gallons in each case.

Try 505 on tires undiluted and let me know how it compares to the citra.

Will do, but I think I saw we're to be getting something like 4 degree temps in the days to come this week so it might be a while.

What is this Fast 505 from Zep?
It is safe for cleaning tires? And is it safe if it gets on the wheel's surface?

I been using ARO, and looking for alternative for tire cleaning....

It's a degreaser from Home Depot. Best tire cleaner I've used to date. Perfectly safe for tires.
I've had it run down on to painted wheels and had no problems just rinse it off quickly. It'll remove grime on wheels too but I don't use it for that purpose because idk how safe it is.
It blows away ARO.
