Good towels for fragile clear? Canada

Hello!

After a long polishing job where I was overall satisfied with my results, I used CarPro eraser with the same microfiber towels I used to remove my polish (after a tourough cleaning and inspection). I noticed I induced alot of marring on my clear, even some micro swirls. They were definitely not there after my polishing job, i made EXTRA sure of it.

I took extra care not to put pressure on my towel, being as gentle as possible. Yet, i f*cked it up. And i got to seal it looking like that (time and weather constraint) - seriously i'm discouraged.
I felt the Eraser was kind of grabby to work with (with my towels maybe, it's all I had on hand that was safe)
I had some dust (working in a home garage) on the car for sitting two days, made my best to blow it off with compressed air)

I was using Chemical guys MIC506;


I know for certain my volvo clear is very easy to mark, the black ridge of those towels will leave streaks, (made sure not to let of touch the paint). Heck, rubbing a finger with slight pressure will induce mini swirls, i swear..

Any recommandations for good quality towels i could use more safely on my paint? All this work, to end up with this result.. I dont want it to happen again.
 
Just curious, what did you seal the paint with?

How old are the towels you used to wipe off the Eraser?
 
My favorite polish removal towels are The Rag Company 365.

They're a dual density towel. One side is more stout, and the other ever so slightly "less stout", but not "plush".

More importantly, they're 70/30 blend, which is very gentle on the paint.

I've yet to encounter an issue using them.
 
I'm sealing it with CC ONE (Sonax)

They were recently bought, not even a month. Been washed two times since (used twice also)
 
Is it possible that the polishing oils were obscuring what was still there underneath?
 
Is the car black by any chance? I would not use a polish removal towel to do a final wipe. Polishes have abrasives and not easy to completely wash out. I would keep finishing towels separately.
 
Carzilla has a crazy amount of brands and their products. I have found Detail Popo is almost a hidden gem for towels. Crazy nice at different gsm choices as well. And really great prices.
 
Try using a rinsless to remove the polish. Softest towels I’d recommend TRC EAgle 350’s. Short nap TRC Everest’s

It was definitely not polishing residues , and they were not induced by removing the polish, i can 110% assure you of that! (that mistake was made a week ago and I perfected my technique hehe). I used Sonax EX0406 and the car sat for about two days without being touched). I naturally inspected my work under every possible angles of light and there were no swirls and/or marring.

Thanks alot for your suggestions, I will definitely look for dedicated towels and try a rinceless on my next job (which will only be next summer)

So you polished, removed and let sit for 2 days? I would eraser right after if I was going to let sit. Rinsless before polishing (use one with no protection)

You get dust on the car in those 2 days and Eraser doesn’t have the surfactants/polymers to encapsulate the dust.

If this was your process that was probably culprit.

He blew the dust off with compressed air. Assuming the car was in the garage I would say he did enough to be ok? I would’ve done it that way too.

But if the car was parked outside then no. [but I don’t think it was]

However what you just said about Eraser sucks.

Actually, what I would’ve done is 1st blow off with air, then do a light dusting with a soft microfiber drying towel by laying matador style and lightly pulling the dry towel across each panel to “dust”, followed by the panel wipe or waterless wash/quick detailer if there was still visible dust on the paint.
