Got a new car, advice on how to preserve the paint?

All,

I will be dropping of my car at the shop. What should I look for in the car's paint surface to know that they actually applied the opti coat and did a good job on it? I won't be there to witness anything and I'm sure it will be a fine job, but it would give me peace of mind to know these things before I pay and drive off with the car.

The surface will be highly hydrophobic once the coating is applied. If it beads amazingly you are coated.

If they are doing the pro grade then I would hope that your vehicle should look like this :

Chad aka Rasky does a great job all the time and yields top notch results!

Yes, they are applying the Pro version. The paint surface on that Mustang looks extremely shiny and almost mirror-like.

Should I have the shop hose some water on the car and see how it reacts? I don't think that would be asking much.

How about a visual insepction up close wih the naked eye? Can I see anything that would indicate it's been applied and been applied well?

Thanks

The gloss and the "wet" look are going to be your keys. Get out in the sun and examine your paint for any defects. Most of them should have been removed prior to the application.

The pro version takes only 12 hours to cure but after that you can apply water to check for beading and sheeting. I would be very hard pressed that an authorized installer what not do it as they have to go through Optimum to get all the pro versions.

What do I need to look for to find these defects?

Take it out in the sun. If you paid for it to be corrected there should be no swirl marks or random scratches in the paint.
