The pics above really don't do justice to how beat up the paint is on this car. A white pad would be too mild to cut through the damage. The microfiber pads give the extra cut needed to clean this thing up. I like using the D300 compound because in my experience it has a longer working time and dusts less than M105.
One of these days I am going to experiment with the different methods for using M105 to help with its drawbacks.
I have always wanted to try the Optimum Hyper Compound/Polish...have seen to many negative reviews about the spray nozzles clogging up in the past. Have they worked this problem out yet?
I think brakes will be first and then a trip to Buffalo, NY to get a full Solo Performance exhaust system from the headers back (hopefully by next summer). :dblthumb2:
I might go ahead and get it tuned now just to get that extra 30-40 hp these V6's are capable of since it will be a little while before I can afford the exhaust system.
I have read that the stock brake setup is good. I doubt I will need calipers but I am pretty sure my rotors are at least slightly warped or the pads that are on there suck because I am getting a lot of brake noise. Pads and rotors will be an easy and not too expensive upgrade (depending on rotor choice) that I can do myself.I can't readily say what exhaust is worth on the V6's, but without intake/exhaust I'm doubtful you're going to unlock 30-40 hp just from tuning (especially any type of 'canned' tune). My suggestion is to wait until you can afford the intake and exhaust and then get it dyno-tuned.
I believe the V6's use the same brakes as the GT's. If that's the case, they are actually quite good (even for the weight of the car). Better pads help, but the factory setup is actually quite good for the street (I had a GT before the GXP). That being said, the Brembo 4-piston calipers are pretty inexpensive for the front, so that's an easy upgrade.
Fair enough on needing additional cut from the D300 and MF. My G8 started out in very good shape so I didn't have to use anything very aggressive (and it's white so that helps too). I haven't had problems with the M105 dusting, but I've read that others have. Possibly I don't work it as long so it keeps some moisture.
I like the Hyper Polish itself, but absolutely do not like the spray bottle. Not because I've had problems with it plugging, but because it's difficult to get an even pattern on the pad (with the larger pads) and prevent overspray (on the 3-4" pads). I transferred mine to a pour bottle for better control.
