Got my FLEX 3401 today!

Re: Flex 3401

One thing the Flex made me do was go over all my extension cords, found some flaws in all of them except one.

Most of the OLD ones were 16 AWE and they were OLD, like 25 to 30 years old.

I have one newer 100 FT 14 AWE that is still good. That one replaced an old 16 AWE 100 FT years ago that went bad.

SO I had to get a couple on new ones so I got a 25 FT and 50 Ft, both 12 AWE so I am set. (Replaced a 50 Ft and 2x 25 Ft)

I will not use any power tool with less than a 12awg cord.

I actually made my own 10awg cord from a length of (dual) wire that was salvaged from a junk boat. It is only 22' long, but works great for my circular saw/portable table saw.

The 100 Ft 14 AWE I use for my leaf blower and hedge trimmer it's fine for that.

But I really needed to upgrade my other ones anyway as they were old as I posted and had flaws in them. I thought they were 14 AWE, but they were 16 AWE so, too thin anyway.

25 to 30 YO cords you know, so yeah it was time.

Try a 12awg with these tools, and let me know if you notice any performance increases............ ;)

I might try the 12 AWE 50 FT with them and see how they do.

Don't really want to replace a good newer 100 Ft 14 AWE however.

I usually look at the existing cord gauge on the tool and will use the same gauge, or heavier, for shorter extensions up to 25 ft. Anything longer than 25 ft. will be at least one gauge heavier than the tool's cord.

Same here.

Excellent advice.

The 3401 has 16 AWE cord on it out of the box.

Well I did end up getting a new 100 Ft 12 AWE cord, found a few kinks in my 14 AWE that I didn't see before, and all that does is build up resistance so.

So in the end I threw out all of my old cords, now most of them were OLD, the 14 AWE was the newest one and that was like 12 years old if that gives you any idea.

And in time now that I am ready to start my leaf blowing as the leaves are finally for the most part down now. I use a 100 Ft cord for the blower.

ahhhh the 3401.

I love the 3401

Is that yours?

If so, looks like you sanded the sand casting flat and then polished?

Looks GREAT!

Thank you!!

It is mine. Finally had this project done! Been planning it for couple of years, but always pushed it back.

I bought some spare parts, including the housing. Took it to a local shop to do just what you said.

I then painted the plastics myself.

Dude, you are the FLEX whisperer!!! ;)

Re: Flex 3401

And on the above recommendation.

FLEX is going to DISCONTINUE the original BEAST within the next 2 years. (approximately)

So if you want a BEAST - you better get one while the getting is good.

:)
Mike
What is the reason for them to discontinue the 3401?
Hope there have something to replace it
