So I hear today the senate is trying to ram thru the internet sales tax. Washington never seems to come up with what they think is a new idea . If this goes thru I am curious how people will respond to paying tax and shipping for products. How much will this hurt internet sales.

Its just another way to "F" the American people. We are taxed to death on everything and I mean everything its getting old.

There excuse is that its hurting local business, but people buy from all states and all types of business's so who is internet sales hurting? I for one will probably not pay for shipping and tax. Why would I so who is that going to hurt? The business that I wont use anymore thats who.

Amazon will be hurt, I think studies have been run that showed the average discount doesn't make up if sales tax was charged really. I still prefer them though, cheaper prices, can use credit card points on their website, 2 day-shipping with prime, etc...

Either way you're supposed to pay it by reporting it to your state at the end of the year. And of course we all do that...

I'll tell you the stinko majority of those crooks who do the insider deals, get everything free (on us) can ram it! It boils down to what's fair. They, pretty much both sides, are not. One side is a bit worse than the other but aside from that it's just a club of how I get my free stuff. They make me sick.
Now they're gonna tax the rain?

Ever since Amazon started charging tax in CA, I noticed that their price has gone up. I wonder if its their way of making up for lost business from CA customers.

You're supposed to pay state sales tax on out of state purchases anyway, no one does though.

Illinois is charging taxpayers via their state tax returns, sales tax on internet purchases.
Of course, you can always say that you didn't make any internet purchases. :D

They have been trying to secure this tax for over a year, suspect sooner than later it too will be finalized.

Ever try to buy something that you need from a local business? They never have what you want so you're forced to order over the Internet.

I tried getting a back-up (quality) rotary polisher locally with no luck.

Yeah, they say it's all in fairness. So a lot of internet companies will see the sales go down, UPS,Fedex etc. will watch their profits dwindle, people may just may do without. I sent every Representative in AZ. a little love letter as I am about as fed up as I can get with government. Here is what I sent

So now Washington wants internet sales tax. I make more money now hourly and am poorer than anytime in my life. We do not eat out anymore, no movies, little to no leisure travel. We just exist. High energy costs, utilities, mortgages with houses under water, food costs outrageously high. Then all I hear is Obama care, more taxes both federal, state and local. Can Washington not keep their hands out of anything ?. Now the few deals you can find on the internet they want taxed. What do you think that will do to internet sales, UPS, Fedex etc. when internet sales take a plunge because people will not pay sales tax and shipping and simply do without. Good for the economy ?, I don't think so. Washington needs to get a life and see what the real life citizen that is not on food stamps, welfare etc. is doing to try to make a living these days. Am I fed up, you bet. Instead of making things better for the working public Washington just wants to see how much more they can get out of us. We used to middle class and am now the working poor. When whats left of the working people finally wise up and find out they are better on the federal and state welfare system and quit their jobs where will Washington get their money then. Unlike Washington just taxing us to death where do we get the money ?. Unless you have not noticed employers are not handing out raises to cover all these added costs that politicians do not even think about.

Ya know, I get a little frustrated when I see these tax issues. Internet tax? Yes, we ALL will be paying it soon enuf. You already do if you purchase an item on internet from a company that's in your state.
HERE's one you'll have a hard time with though. A bill was just passed in Md. where homeowners will be taxed on rainfall in a yearly manner approx. 50.00 - 200.00. This is basically for runoff to storm sewers. They use the eye in the sky to determine your property, calculate runoff and tax accordingly.

Go ahead, "search it" and just wait... ain't seen nothin' yet -

As one of my friend from England said..... "So. How does taxation with representation feels?????".

I simply don't have a comeback for this one. I just wish these clowns in congress would be this creative in reducing the deficit. They seem to be on a constant search for new taxes.

At my job, we do internet sales and anyone who purchases from us who are out of state, we don't charge them tax.

As Pureshine said, it's just another way our out of control government fools around with us and basically tells us what to do. Their only way to figure out any sort of debt problems is to just rape us of our money... for what it's worth, anyway.

When you really start thinking about this think of ebay, AG and thousands of other internet companies that employ people for sales, shipping etc. The employees at UPS, Fedex etc. Slow or slumping sales do not require employees standing around. More unemployment, just what we need to slow down this booming economy we have. It is just not the Federal Government doing things like this as it is all the way down thru State and Local. I have been trying to think of something we are not taxed on and came up with nothing, everything is taxed all the way down to the sewer bill. Phoenix even has a Food tax and fights tooth and nail to keep it with threats of layoffs of first responders, less policemen etc. Those threats have become the norm along with kid's education cuts. He** the schools do not even teach things like WW1, WWll, revolutionary war etc. so what are they going to cut.

Internet sales tax?

Sounds like it's about time for me to move up to Oregon. No sales tax there.
