Government ramming internet sales tax

Oregonian here. I am always dissapointed when I'm visiting out of state and try to buy something with cash, especially food. There is no such thing as a .99 menu outside of Oregon!

So what happened to the pledge the right wing nuts made about never raising your taxes?

Yeah...I thought so.

That all went away with the Obama care. Supreme court ruled a lot of it unconstitutional unless it was a tax. Largest tax increase in American history. Never forget those great words of wisdom from Pelosi "To know what's in the bill we must pass it". Sheesh.......

Dave

edit: and they were Left wing. But that is not the point here. The point is where is it ever going to stop.

For a internet sales tax wouldn't they just be enforcing the collection of state sales / use tax, which your supposed to be paying to the state yourself?

My thoughts exactly. It's life. You guys should see the taxes I have to pay on my small business... Then my income. It is what it is. And those who are saying "I'll do without"... I doubt that attitude will last too long. In my case, my detailing business relies on Internet purchases in order to get supplies. I don't have a detailing supply house near me that offers what I want. I wish I did... But I don't. Is it fair...? Depends on who you ask. Will the extra revenue be spent on what we want it spent on...? Depends on who you ask. But it seem as if it is going to happen. I've overcome much larger business hurdles. Just my. 02 cents.

If they just enforced the tax laws we have they would not need to do this but states have been losing sales tax to internet providers and government needs more reliable methods to get taxes. You cannot rely on the honesty alone.

You would not have to pay sales tax if you are using it in your business. You should be tax exempt. I don't want to pay more than I should. The government gets enough money it does not know how to spend properly. Government does not have a revenue problem it has a spending problem.

yes oldmodman you certainly would be welcomed here in Oregon. trouble is they keep trying to push a sales tax through. think it has been defeated nine times now. moved here to retire and that was a huge part of the equation. car registration just jumped to 84 dollars a year. dont miss california at all.

Illinois is charging taxpayers via their state tax returns, sales tax on internet purchases.
Of course, you can always say that you didn't make any internet purchases. :D

Those days are coming to an end. Providers such as Amazon are already starting to report sales to the IRS in a test phase.

I'm not shocked by Internet purchase taxes at all.

Same here. I'm also not shocked by all the politicians promises of "no new taxes" on middle class Americans during last years election cycle. They must think the average American voters are stupid... and they'd be 100% correct

Take your garbage to the dump, no need for garbage men, no tax.

No need for roads, ride a horse, no tax.

Get the picture, People complain about taxes, but will they ##### when services are cut.

So what you are saying is that there is no excess in government budgets. Humm If government would run like private sector there would be less people in it and more effecient,

I don't mind paying tax as long as my state use it correctly but we all know California is the best budget state..

Yes the private sector does a wonderful job. Where were you in 2008, 2002, 1987 the 1950's, the 1930. If our government was not here to bail out the private sector this country would be like our friend in Mexico. Listen, I am not saying that our money cannot be managed better, what I am saying that you can just cut so much and then you need to anti up. And those that can, should.
And people need to really think about what would happen to them and their family in a time of need if taxes where cut to the bone. ( every hear of unemployment Insurance, it is a tax on your boss, lets tell him not to pay it any more)

Folks, I was only mentioning the fact that ALL the politicians seem to want the free ride, dig? It's obvious who here advocates which "side" they're on and can justify it any way they wish. Lots of it on both sides can make sense but little of it comes to a sensible conclusion. Everyone wants money for nothing and their chicks for free, right?

I mentioned that new rain tax. Any one of you read about it? Hard to believe. Whats next?

I used to laugh at my father when he said the only thing that will change things is a revolution. I wonder if he was right. Ya got the rest of the world hating us yet we still get everything made in China. Why a commie country? They hate us. Why not other cheap labor in India maybe? They have as many poor people as China. Give them the jobs instead. Then Walmart would at least be buying from them.

The fact that any of us here reading any of this shows we have purchased goods from this site - a good thing for the Geek. I still will when everything is taxed on internet too.

When any Republican, Democrat or conservative that is associated with the govt. says ANYTHING, if you believe it I don't think you're quite equipped with the intelligence to make a rational statement at all. You've based opinions on bull**** because the way it's reported is always slanted.

What's worse is the folks who yes, are actually stupid and vote not knowing who any of the politicians in their own state are seem to be the worst off and guess who takes advantage of that? Right again, politicians. Most of these guys just lie to your face but most use the media in some right or left slanted way.

Ya want to save money on a stupid tax like internet tax when they actually have their ducks in a row and do collect it from us is to go back to some of the stores in depressed areas where like here in NJ it's 3.5 percent instead of 7 percent.

But hey, lets tax rain... Maryland likes this idea. Man I could go on and on like many of you and apologize for offending any if I have.

I'm waiting for the next 15% off sale. I want one of those boar-hair brushes to wash my car with. I hear that's the ticket. Probably made in China. We have a dopey show about boars on TV. Heck, I wonder if those brushes could be made right here? Anybody use this brush? I've never brought my car thru a wash even in winter. Just move quick!

Thanks -

If this reply was not so funny, it would be sad.
Enough said about this topic.

Everyone settle down PLEASE. All the poor kids need iPads, iPhones and Xboxes. How else are these going to be paid for??? Think of the children!!!

Say, I wasn't trying to be funny, I wouldn't want to make anyone sad.

Like any capitalistic natured individual in this U.S.A., It's never enough!

I'd like an IPAD an IPhone but I don't need an Xbox cuz I don't have the time. Poor kids... when I did volunteer work at the hospital in Paterson there were a bunch. One that I did charitable things for stole my car stereo.

I don't think I aimed anything indecent at anybody involved in this thread and pay my share, I contribute to a number of charities and want to keep enough "disposable income" to continue doing this.
I just made some comments on personal observations about taxes and politicians in general. Most of them really don't care about you or this country. Two of my nephews were in Iraq. The other two are in the service right now.
My wife just got back from W. Va. putting her uncle in the ground.
The guy there who was her uncles best friends sister still lives in Boston where he was from. His sisters friend and kids were the ones that were the victims in this terrorist blast. What are the "politicians" doing about it? A lot of talking, right? What else do they ever DO?
The regulations we're harnessed with have strangled our country to the point where if the money isn't stolen it's spent on studies or IPADs for the poor kids, right?

Still waiting for a 15% sale for the boars hair brush. Keep an open mind -

Just received this from ebay. Already voiced my opinion to every Rep. in AZ. whether my district or not.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Congress is considering online sales tax legislation that is wrongheaded and unfair, and I am writing to ask for your help in telling Congress "No!" to new sales taxes and burdens for small businesses.

Whether you're a consumer who loves the incredible selection and value that small businesses provide online, or a small-business seller who relies on the Internet for your livelihood, this legislation potentially affects you. For consumers, it means more money out of your pocket when you shop online from your favorite seller or small business shop owner. For small business sellers, it means you would be required to collect sales taxes nationwide from the more than 9,600 tax jurisdictions across the U.S. You also would face the prospect of being audited by out-of-state tax collectors. That's just wrong, and an unnecessary burden on you.

Big national retailers are aggressively lobbying Congress to pass online sales tax legislation to "level the playing field" with Amazon. And, as they compete with big retail, Amazon is advocating for this legislation too, while at the same time they are seeking local tax exemptions across the country to build warehouses. This is a "big retail battle" in which small businesses and consumers have a lot to lose. But eBay is fighting, as we have for more than 15 years, to protect small online businesses and sellers and ensure healthy competition, value, and selection that benefit consumers online.

The solution is simple: if Congress passes online sales tax legislation, we believe small businesses with less than 50 employees or less than $10 million in annual out-of-state sales should be exempt from the burden of collecting sales taxes nationwide. To put that in perspective, Amazon does more than $10 million in sales every 90 minutes. So we believe this is a reasonable exemption to protect small online businesses. That's what we're fighting for, and what big companies such as Amazon are fighting against.

I hope you agree that imposing unnecessary tax burdens on small online businesses is a bad idea. Join us in letting your Members of Congress know they should protect small online businesses, not potentially put them out of business. Click here to make your voice heard. Together, I believe our voices can make a difference.

Sincerely,

I guess it is almost unanimous - no one wants to pay taxes! They want someone else to pay them. I am shocked! :p
