Hi, I'm William (Bill). Wow! What a large volume of information is here. I am ready to learn. BTW: thebluepearl is what I named my newly purchased, used car. Kind of a long story that I can share some day.

Opening questions: Is there an existing topic on Protective Paint Film (PPF)? I hope that this is not a "bad word" on this auto detailing site. Will I find passionate reactions one way or the other on this topic? What would be the best surface prep for PPF? Can you have both: fabulous looking coated paint under the PPF and the perfect surface for long-lasting adhesion?

Welcome to AGO, Bill! Glad to have you here. PPF is discussed here and mainly how to deal with it as far as handling a machine with it, dealing with the edges etc. There are some pro's with shops who offer it as an additional service so i am sure you can get some really good info here. Maybe try a search function here for what you're looking for.

Again, welcome.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to AutogeekOnline! :welcome:

Just to comment... you'll get more help with a question about Paint Protection Films if you start a new thread and use those words in the title.

Right now the title of this thread reads,

Greetings Earthlings and Detailings: new to AGO

And this tends to only get you clicks from friendly forum members that like to "welcome" new forum members.

I know I personally choose to click on or not click on threads by their title.

That's how forums work....

:)

Thanks Mike. Good point. I will take that advice but will try to do a more thorough search before a create something new. BTW: I watched your video on the Cyclo 5 Pro (from 2010? or 2013?): clear instructions to follow, lots of good detail, worth watching multiple times. Thanks for all of the work you have put into this forum (and I am only getting started and don't have any idea what I am saying to know the volume of work you have done--just thanks.) I am near your old "stomping grounds". I am from Salem, OR.

Thank you for the kind words. I don't think that video is a 1-minute video as you can't share in-depth information in one minute and do the tool and the process justice.

I share why I like to help people detail their car in an interview I did with Dennis Gage on My Classic Car.

And "yes" I lived in Albany just 20 miles south of Salem.

If you can deal with the rain Oregon is a great place to live.

Bill, are you from another world in a distant galaxy? You have referred to us as earthlings. I was just pointing out the elephant in the room

Welcome Bill. Hope you enjoy your stay here on Earth and AGO!

Since I "grew up with" Marvin The Martian, the word "earthlings" naturally follows the word "greetings." They sound so good together. :xyxthumbs:

You realize that your question is very appropriate considering the event that is arriving in about 17 days? "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." I remember seeing students having "light saber battles" even before I saw the movie in the theatre. Even then, the movie took the culture "by storm" (Storm trouper?).
