Hi everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Matt. I've always enjoyed washing and detailing cars, but I've always used run-of-the-mill products and machines, so I'm looking forward to learning some new tricks. My primary interest is in keeping my Avanti looking #### 'n span. This car has been in my family for quite a while and still looks great even with it's original paint (I'll try to post some pictures later).

Cheers,

Matt

Welcome to Autogeek. Great car, can't wait for the pictures.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I'm in Houston. Yup don't see too many Avantis around. Mine is an 82.

What a cool car, I used to see one around here occasionally many years ago. I guess I didn't remember that they were being made (in small numbers) that whole time from when Studebaker stopped in the 60's until that other guy took over in the 80's and was making them with the F-car powertrain (if I'm remembering that right).

Yup you're rememberng right. In 83 the Avanti motor corp was bought by Steve Blake and they switched to a Monte Carlo frame the following year. The company was bought and sold a few more times over the years and they were making Avantis all the way up to 2007, however by that point the design had been significantly updated and the factory had been moved to cancun Mexico.

So was the body changed in '83 when they went to the Monte Carlo frame? I remember reading an article about the car in Car & Driver, I don't know if it was the Steve Blake era or the one after that.

Yeah. They went to the molded plastic bumpers.
