Been into cars and car care for years! Like this iste. Like a kid in a candy store!
My first question is, "How do I remove tiny scratches on my new (metalic black) motorcycle? These are scratches from the dealer wiping down the cycle on the showroom floor. I've used some swirl remover, (Meguiar's), but now have new scratches going in another direction. I usually do not see this problem when detailing my cars.

Welcome to AGO! What part of VA are you in?
I have a black Yamaha FZ1 and have found that Optimum Poli-Seal works well on light scratches/marring. For moderate scratches and marring I use OPT PolishII or Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover. Any medium cut polish like Meg's Ultimate Polish should work in your case. I have removed some heavier/deeper scratches using Meg's MFDA cutting pad/compound(D300), with my Porter-Cable DA. Meg's UC is very similar to D300 and can give you good results by hand, if you need something for deep scratches.
 
Oh yeah. What bike do you have? My Yamaha paint is pretty soft so what works on my paint may not work on yours. But either way starting with a light polish and moving on from there is the best practice.

First, if you're working by hand I would strongly consider stepping up to working by machine, a good starter polisher will be one of the basic DA styles, that is,

Porter Cable 7424XP
Meguiar's G110v2
Griot's Garage 6" ROP

These are all the same "type" of DA Polisher, just variations is design. For a motorcycles, get some 4" pads and a 3.5" Backing Plate.

Hello, I'm new here too. We just drove a 2007 Mustang GT back to Texas from just outside Lynchburg. Had an awesome trip. The second time I have gone to VA for a vehicle as I bought a new dealer leftover 2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP at Kern Pontiac in Winchester back in 2006.
 
I'm in Warrenton, VA; not far from Winchester and about 45 miles West of Washington, DC. Great area!
 
My current ride is a 2009 V-Star. Great looking basic bike, and the Black Metalic looks great......when it is clean and flawless!
