Griot's 3" Polisher

At 51 yo I ordered my first polisher today a Griot's 3" polisher to get started on small stuff. Can't wait to try it out.

Got my 2" backing plate. Pads are not here yet.

Anybody know where to get a 2" BP for a drill chuck? I can always make an adapter, but would prefer a non-threaded one. Would use it primarily on wheels.

Many of us run a 3" backing plate on the GG6 - works well. The 2" I'm not so sure. Seems like there may be too much of the shroud exposed. Maybe with an extension. I'm take a look tomorrow, but my gut says no.

i wouldn't use the 2" backing plate and pads on the GG6. too much top weight and torque and you can potentially damage the backing plate and pads. i think it would be suited for the GG3 which it was intended for...

If you're looking to do a 3" backing plate on a GG6, I'd highly recommend their 3" HD Backing plate designed for using 3" pads on the 6" machine.

Also, for the GG3, Look into any of the thin 3" pads. I like the Griot's BOSS pads, but each brand has their fans. The 3" machines tend to like a thinner pad to maintain pad rotation for better correction. The thicker pads can absorb too much of the energy at times. A quick search should help bring up some of the threads where this is covered. As Mike Phillips is known to say - Thin is in.

I think you'll like the Griot's machine. Also works great with 4" pads for spreading wax or your LSP of choice. When it comes time for wider scale correction, I see a Griot's 6" machine in your future. :buffing:
