This morning I ordered the above buffer. The online rep told me that the Griot's has a 6" backing plate and to order the 6.5 inch pads for this buffer, so I did. I ordered a foam orange pad for severe oxidation.

Now I noticed the the web page says to order 6" pads for this buffer.

Which is correct?

Thanks

Larry

A 5" backing plate will take 5.5" pads and a 6" backing plate will take 6.5" pads. I perfer 5.5" bp with 5.5" pads, but it's your call. Just find that the smaller pads work better in correcting. Why didn't you order it from AG since your a forum member?

it comes with a 6" backing plate, so naturally they (Griots) would want you to use the Griots 6" pads with it. it's perfectly fine to use 6.5" pads (lake country) as well...

most will suggest a pad thats a little bit bigger, you dont want the backing plate to touch paint and this gives a little insurance.

I use the 6.5" pads on the 6" backing plate. I have the 5" plate and some 5.5" pads but haven't seen the need to use them as I haven't had any trouble with the larger pads bogging the machine down, even on tough corrections and using extreem pressure at times.
