Griots, Flex, Rupes DA clone

Many people who visit this site are not professionals, myself included. While I did buy into the Rupes system, frankly, I don't need that high a quality of tool. I'm not going to use it much; certainly not every day, maybe not every month, maybe even not every quarter or year. I could have gotten more of my money's worth with a cheap DA.

Now, the PC isn't expensive, but you can get the HF for less than half its cost. That's pretty significant IMO, and I doubt the PC is twice as good.

So if Maxshine makes Griots I guess this new 21mm DA will be a GG product soon enough. Chemical Guys is using the Maxshine unit in EU so its odd that they dont sell it here; maybe because GG will be the US distributor? Hell, it already looks like a GG unit in that bright orange.

Im pretty sure this "cheap knockoff" will receive rave reviews with a GG label on it. :applause:
 
The Maxshine unit is selling overseas for about $250--that's with a 21mm throw, 880W motor and both a 5" and 6" backing plate. Since Maxshine makes the Griots we have to assume it's the same level of quality which is quite good or Griots would never offer a lifetime warranty. Compare that to a Rupes 21 with both a 5 and 6" backing plate--about $450. For those of us who are weekend detailers or hobbyists a savings of $200 is significant. Now if someone would just sell the Maxshine unit in the US!!!
 
Wondering why no big player is selling one of these large throw knock-offs in the USA...

Shame?

Fear of some patent infringement?

Maybe they are junk?

I'd personally have to say the PC is twice as good as the HF DA since it's made in Mexico and our hemisphere :buffing:
 
The EVO21 is on Amazon for only $180. Who is gonna take the plunge?
 
If you take a look at the Griot's webpage you will see they are having an announcement on June 6th. According to MaxShine Griot's will be annoucing the new 21mm throw DA similar to the MS-L21 shown in the OP's video in post #1 and with similar specs as listed in post #26. Interesting that it uses standard 5/16-24 backing plates. If this is true you would think AG would also carry it since it's a Griot's product.
 
I love my Rupes Bigfoot, DeWalt and PC.

I'll always stick with the original. Sometimes pricey, but worth not having the headaches or possible problems of the "knock-off" brands.

But the current Griot's DA has a lifetime warranty so the new one (if it happens) will most likely have the same warranty.

I guess I should clarify ..........
I was referring to the true knock-off brands. I don't consider Griots in that category although I have never owned one.

Even the existing Griot's is a "knock off" of the PC--made by Maxshine from China--but they improved on the PC and Griot's offers the lifetime warranty, which to me is the real difference and advantage Griot's has. I've had my GG DA (V2) for 4 years and never had a problem, but it's nice to know if I do Griot's will take care of it as long as I did no modifications to it--no changing of power cord, no changing of brushes etc.

Well then you shouldnt consider the others a knock-off either. Griots and the knock-offs are coming from the same factory.

If you look at the Chemical guys no swirls s21 it also has the same backing plate. Whats weird is the WaxedShine ws-21 has a Rupes type plate where you bolt through it.....it looks just like a Rupes backing plate.

These pretty much look identical otherwise so they have to both be Maxshine units but with different backing plates?
 
Specs say 5/16-24 backing plate for both.
 
Take the backing plate off of the knock-offs and compare the quality of the machined parts ( counter weight and mount ). Hmmmm.....

Yeah but the ws-21 has a Rupes type plate but the exact specs and looks of the maxshine unit.

Looks pretty much like the gloss-it BP. Wonder if its easy to change the mount at the factory.
