griots garage 3 inch polisher

He already had a Flex so no need to get a GG6, but since he started a thread asking for feedback maybe should have taken advice of us that have a Rupes 75 3" as it's far superior to the gg3" :dblthumb2::buffing:

He started a thread asking for opinions about the GG3; obviously he was in the market for a polisher with a small footprint. So, something like the 75E would be an option. But, at $300, that's a pricey polisher. (I also missed the date of the start of thread and when I posted, so I didn't read ahead enough.)

BUT, how does the 75E compare to the GG6 with a 3 inch pad? Curious... If the two are comparable in terms of correcting ability, why not pay ~$150 less for the GG?

Of course, if the 75E is substantially better than the GG6 (we'll assume it's better than the GG3), then the price may be worth it to him.

Why not get the 6 inch GG and a 3 inch backing plate? More power; more flexibility. Obviously this is more expensive than the GG3. From what I've read, the GG3 is really underpowered when it comes to correction. The GG6 is very nice, and it works quite well with a 3 inch backing plate. I've used it with a 3.5 inch plate and some CCS pads for the smaller/tighter areas. Works very well, IMHO.
:iagree: The only difference is that I use the 3" Backing plate with my PC 7424 XP. Works great same concept as the GG 6". I am going to a hardware store and look at DA extensions for the PC so I can correct under the side mirrors.

That's what I did before with my PC too, that was before the Rupes invasion. The PC is a great all around and very flexible tool.

There really is no comparison. The Mini is smoother, quieter, more powerful, and a joy to operate.

You just compared them 😜

Good to know. If I ever get to the point of needing a 3rd polisher, the 75E would be my next choice.

i have been thinking about this for a while and quite curious.. i wonder how well the GG3 would work for correction with the megs xtra-cut disc if it was trimmed down to a 3" pad (it only comes on 5" and 6"). there's no foam in between the velcro and microfiber like the megs DA mf discs, and it should rotate a lot easier...

Griot's Garage now offers a 3" Micro Fiber FAST Cutting Pad. It features plush-nap micro fiber laminated directly to loop. By eliminating the foam, it amplifies the 3/16" throw of the Griot's Garage Random Orbital and significantly increases pad rotation @ speed 6. For those who doubt the defect removal characteristics of that machine...try this and you may change your mind...
