Whould I be able to use the GG3 with Meguiar's system using the 3 inch backing plate (S-3BP)? Is it compatible?

Is the GG3 strong enough for the options that plate provides if it does fit?

Or is it only meant to apply this plate to a polisher in the GG6, G110v2, 7424xp class or higher?

The GG3 will accept the S-3BP. The bp comes with various 5/16-24 adapters and a 3/4 spacer. I use the Megs m/f 3" pads with mine but due to the reduced power of this machine a little patience goes a long way. The GG3 is a good addition to a existing arsnel of da machines but not as a stand alone polisher IMO. Mine comes in hand for tight spots, headlights, windows etc.

I agree. It is a nice little machine, but, way under powered for correcting much more than spot polishing. I use it for headlights, small glass, spot polishing, spot wetsanding, and on some wheels (depends on the size/shape. IF I can get my PC in the right position, I use it instead.)

I tried my 3 in MF system on mine. It did not take long at all to switch it over to my trusty old PC7424 and used the 5.5 MFs on my GG 6 in.

Wow, that's pretty underpowered, considering the 3" MF pads are already smaller and thinner than the usual 4" foam pads.

The past Griot's 3" was underpowered.

I have the new one and it corrects just fine. I can put quite a bit of pressure before it stops.

I know the older 3" and 6" GG are way underpowered.... not the new ones

Why would you want to put a new backing plate on it? You can use both 3" and 4" pads on the Griot's 3"

I was going to order a one for my traditional DA and had a question as to whether there would be any performance benefit on the GG3? like an aftermarket upgrade if you will...

It is a specialty tool.

Nice for getting where a traditional DA cannot... better than hand polishing those areas and do not have to change backing plates cause it ready to go. It nice to have a dedicated 3" polisher for convenience.

$100 is well worth the convenience for me.

Maybe start with the backing plate and then decide?

That's what I decided to do when I got the Megs DA MF system. I ordered the DMC3 and DMF3 pads along with the kit, and decided to try with the 3" Megs BP first. I agree, the convenience of not having to swap BPs is notable, and the body size and shaft length of the PC make it cumbersome around mirrors and spoilers where I believe the GG3 would have a lot less trouble. But for bumpers, valances, spoiler tops, mirror caps, and A-, B- and C-pillars, the 3" BP on the PC works very well.
