So i recently purchased a PCXP and well lets just say im not that big of a fan of it. so im planning on getting a Griots Garage DA and was wondering what size of backing plate does it come with? im asking this because i want to use 5.5 pads with it and i dont know if backing plate it comes with is suitable for 5.5 pads. i see that AG pictures it with a BP and says to attach a 6.5 pad but i dont want to use 6.5 pads. for you guys that have this da, whats the actual size that it comes with? OR should i buy this adapter D.A Adapter 5/8" X 11 because i have a 4 3/4 inch rotary that i love how it fits with the 5.5 pads i have. any advice from you GG DA users would be very much appreciated! :xyxthumbs:

wow thats a bummer...

Not sure if you are aware but you can replace the backing plate with any size DA backing plate. As soon as I opened my Griot's DA I swapped the backing plate for a Lake Country 5". My 6" backing plate sits in the box.

yea i am fully aware of that but i didnt really want to purchase another backing plate. thats why i asked if the adapters are a good idea?

I have the adapter to use with the 1-Pad system (who remembers that?) and I see your point. I have 2 5" backing plates in case something happens to one. Really this is your decision to make but my vote goes to buying a DA backing plate.

yea thats what i thought too. i dont really feel like switching BP from my rotary to my da and back and forth. hey rwright, vote on this. sell the PC and get GG OR keep PC and save for 3401.

What size BP is on your PC?
its a 5 inch. but since i was planning on selling it, it was gonna go along with the pc. flash gordon, vote on this. sell the PC and get GG OR keep PC and save for 3401.

If you already have a DA then there's no reason to buy the 3401 in my opinion (thanks AR). My first vote for a DA will probably always be the Griot's Garage DA, unless Porter Cable plans to release a new version that matches the performance of the Griot's machine. After having one PC XP fail, I picked up a Griot's machine and demoted my replacement PC XP to 4" pad duties or as a back up to the Griot's. Have you given much thought to a rotary? If you're sitting on a lower budget, maybe keep the PC XP and save for the new DeWalt 849. It goes down to 600rpm like the new Flex PE-14-2-150 but has a range up to 3000rpms, and more power than the new Flex. Plus it will be cheaper than the 3401 or the PE14-2-150. :xyxthumbs:

I would get the Griots, switch out the BP's and sell as is...

Glad I read this. I have been going back and forth between PC and griots and was actually going to purchase PC megs kit tomorrow. Looks like I'll be getting a griot. Is there an advantage over using 5.5 pads instead of 6.5

I wish I could find someone to buy my PCXP. Good luck. With all the love the GG DA gets, the PCXP doesn't get much attention.

Always nice to have a back up. Or one dedicated to a smaller pad set up.

The 5.5" pads spin/rotate better on a da than the 6.5" pads. Not sure what pads you have used but you may want to consider the low profile hydro tech pads. At least consider standard flat pads.

Exactly what I did :)

yes, 5.5 inch pads will correct faster. Most ppl here prefer them over 6.5 inch pads. They also like the thin flat pads better too. The reasons are in the Science of the MF System thread (in the section about foam pads).

Oh i already have a Makita rotary. and its what i do nearly all my correction with. i do alot of wetsanding (entire cars) so my makita is the hero. i bought the PCXP to finish off with a polish and apply sealants and waxes and wetsand. But ill just stick my makita and get the most practice out of it! i guess what i'll do is sell the PCXP and just get a GG. Thanks for the insight and inspiration to master the rotary!
