Griots or Flex Input

I tried to order the GG polisher and the discount code offered today didn't work. I then tried the Flex just to see if it would work, that didn't either. I got a message saying...

Coupon code 15dec2014 only applies to certain store items. Please note that some or all of the items in your shopping basket do not qualify for this coupon offer. I know it says not valid on polishers, but why won't the HD option be accepted?

Did anyone else have this issue?

this is a topic that has been discussed many times. IMO, every detailer/enthusiast should own at least one traditional style DA, and the GG6 is an excellent given the power/torque and warranty it offers...

The GG6 is super easy to use. Pretty hard to screw up the paint!

Thanks everyone who was kind enough to give input. I hope autogeek gives some sort of promotion on these soon!

allenk4, I used a rotary backing plate extender and the adapter for a DA. You can use 1, 2 or more backing plate extender and use the adapter and voila...extended 3" DA. When I have the chance I will post a Pic of my PC with the extension Buff and Shine has the Backing Plate Adapter and you can look at AGO's site for the DA adapter. I also used the rotary 3" Backing Plate for the Flex Kompact.

A simple process once you see how it is done.

Also Art Hernandez has a post for an extension I can't find the thread but he does one too.

I tried the system you are running, but ended up blasting the BP and pads due to overheating

The rotary BP's do not like DA pads

Familiar with the "Hernandez Polisher". Art helped me out with a Gallardo and found plenty of spots that he was able to get a 2" pad into. Neat little device

Dmb5450 You are correct about the GG 6". You can do the exact same thing as I did with the PC 7424 XP. The GG 6" is probably more powerful, however, my guess is that the QC is better with the PC. You can't go wrong with either.

i would easily take the GG6 or even the HF DA over the PCXP which has more torque and is half the price. the PCXP would be the last traditonal style DA i would consider with all the options/choices available now. garry dean has great video (10:30 mark). at the time of this video, he had used it straight/non-stop for 10+ months and it still was taking a beating (he details for a living and details more cars in a few months than most of us will do in a lifetime). the only thing he changed on it was the backing plate which he swapped out for a 5" instead of the 6" one it came with...

Thanks everyone, I went with the GG6 and got some other backing plates.

Great choice, it's what I purchased last year and NO problems with lot's of power, especially w/5" backing plate.:dblthumb2:

Last month I decided to purchase my very 1st machine polisher and I went with the Flex 3401 HD w/ extra backing plates so I could utilize the 5" Hybrid pads.

Yesterday was the very first time I got to use the machine.

Now, before yesterday, I had Never used a machine polisher a day in my life…..Ever!

And I have to say, that I found it was extremely easy to work with and most of all, that I am more than happy with my purchase!

Although, there are those smaller areas where I could see how a smaller polisher would definitely benefit…..

So going to be saving up for Flex pe8 Kompakt :)

I was searching posts on the Flex and came across this thread which interests me, hence the revival of an older post. I am interested to know from those who have experience with both the GG and Flex, if the Flex would be worth the investment for me? Some background, I am not a pro detailler, just a hobbist and the desire to maintain my vehicles well, which consist of a full size pick-up truck, a Toyota Prius V and a 28' travel trailer. I have both the GG/6 & GG/3 machines. The GG/6 has for the most part worked well for me and the GG/3, while kind of whimpy, has also worked well, considering I only use it in tight spaces and on small components. I am curious about the Flex for a couple reasons. First I understand because of it's design, it will essentially accomplish what my GG/6 does, but faster and because I experience a fair amount of vibration (even though I have significantly improved my technique) with my GG/6. So my questions. Is the speed advantage of the Flex enough to warrant the expense for me and would there be a reduction in vibration, so less fatigue on me? Thank you.

As a hobbyist the answer is no. How can you justify hundreds of dollars for very little time difference? It would take you years to recouperate the money, and that's not counting inflation and investment return. Counting those, your money will never be recouperated.

So I am guessing from your reply, the time savings is not significant? I would like to realize a time savings, especially where my travel trailer and pick-up are concerned, but if it only amounts to a few minutes, then no it would not be worth the extra $$$.

I'm in the same boat. Not sure if I should get the GG/6 or the Flex to compound, polish, and wax my two vehicles.

I would say if this is to just care for your own vehicles and maybe a few friends down the road, go with the Griotts.

I'd rather you have the Griotts with the balance youd spend on a flex in buffing pads and product.

Can the Griots 6inch backing plate be exchanged with the 3inch?
