Griots VS Adams Polishes // AND SPEED SHINE QUESTION

AGO has said before we can mention
other brands, just don't post links to
the other brands website.
^^^ Is that still true? ^^^

Thanks Bob. I was going to post that earlier but passed on it.

It's definitely not the case according to the forum rules, but seeing how Mike and Nick have both posted in this thread it certainly leaves a question to the grey area.

Autopia forums is always another option for those that are looking for another forum that is more open to discussions like this.

Forgive my ignorance but why can't people ask about products not sold by Auto Geek? It seems that AutoGeek and Autopia are owned by the same people so why is it ok on one forum and not the other?

They don't want to provide free advertising for a competitor's products. If someone reads where Product X is used by people and then that person buys said product instead of something from AG they will lose money. IMO light comparison fits well into the "grey area" but I will not get upset if AG closes a thread like this one. It is their forum and they can do what they wish.

Maybe the Autopia forum is sponsored by other companies and not solely AG?

The AGO folks are smart people. They know there are other products out there, but you could ask employees at the Chevy factory why they don't want any workers driving Toyotas to work.

AGO is the forum that supports autogeek.net, and while it is a very extensively visited forum, it's main job is to support the people and products that support autogeek.net.

PBMC is the umbrella company, but each forum runs by its own rules. The moderators aren't Nazis, but they do want you to respect their rules. This is not to say they'll delete a thread about your detail if you used 99 AG products and then used 22ple, which they don't sell, on your car. But, they might if you do an in depth review of 22ple and certainly if you mention where you got it.

I think it's common sense stuff, and the moderators are very understanding about discussions. But, I think being a respectful user is also part of what makes this the best forum out there.

It can be a little confusing for new guys sometimes. They're used to other online "special interest" forums where pretty much anything goes. But the AG forum is a different category of forum- it's an extension of an actual store (that needs to run a successful business for its owners and employees- and you and me!). The forum was created for "customers" to discuss their products. I see being a member as a privilege, and as such, I do my best to abide by their suggested etiquette. It's sorta like how you don't go pick up food at the McD's drive through and then go across the street to sit down and eat it at a nicer restaurant. Common sense and respect. Pretty straightforward.

Well, this post hasn't been deleted.

Neither has this one.

So, must still be true.

Its funny and proves that no one reads the rules. You dont have to know why really...its their forum and their rules. If you dont like said rules you are always free to find a better place to discuss car care. Good luck with that.

Maybe I'll give you a different answer than some of the others. Griot's is on an upswing now. They are a forum favorite now, mainly because they recently came out with a large throw polisher that is a copy of the Rupes design.

Many people report the new Griot's polishes work really well, also. A year ago the only Griot's product that anyone really mentioned with any frequency was their GG 6" polisher. So if you are looking for a polisher and polishes - I'd go with Griot's... Assuming they are the only two brands on earth. But, if you want the cutting edge for the same price - look into Rupes polishers and polishes.

AGO owns this forum - and they don't sell "Adam's" - so you can't really promote them here.

To be honest, both companies probably make OK products - but I don't think either make the best products out there. I have a gallon of Griot's Speed Shine. I got it for a few bucks on sale. I haven't been tempted to even open it - bit I have used the product before. It's a pretty good QD - but not the best.

I've looked at Adam's website before, and the stuff is just crazy expensive for what it is. Adam seems like a nice guy, but his company isn't innovating or class leading in anything out there. Neither is Griot's.

Unfortunately, you will have to do your own research on different products to see what is the best out there.

The following is my written review between Griots Speed Shine(SS), Griots Best of Show Detailer(BOS), and Adam's Detail Spray(ADS). I used the following towels, The Rag Co Everest 800 and 1100, and Griots PFM (which is around 850/860 gsm). The 800 and PFM worked best. The 1100 didn't absorb the spray as well.

My vehicle-Brand new(less than 2000miles) Jet Black Chevy Tahoe. It sat at the dealership for about 6 months, and I've had it since mid December 2016(2months). I have not washed it for 3.5 weeks. It has been garage kept, not seen inclement weather, and has been cleaned via some sort of detail spray after every drive.

I have been using SS for 3-4 yrs now. My old vehicle was also a Black Tahoe. The SS always left hazy streaks, I just figured that was its nature, and went along with it, having to buff it a whole lot more every use. If used on warm or hot surface or in direct sun, it would blotch, and was nearly impossible to remove until next washing. When BOS came out, I jumped on it right away after reading the description. I still have not found any reviews of it on youtube. Anyways I got it and the PFM's, from Auto geek. WOW, was my first impression, and still is to this day! It smells like blueberry, flashes fast, I mean one wipe and you almost don't have to buff it, but on a black car, you may need a second wipe for the buff. Leaves a great slick surface and deep shine.

I just recently heard of Adam's products. I started to follow them on Instagram. One day they were at a show doing the 'LIVE' thing. A female was doing the recording, she was acting like a snob and frankly being a Bi@$h to people. I told myself I would never support a company that portrays them self that way.

Then I kept reading and watching such great reviews on their products. I took the plunge for the ADS on amazon. It cost $18!!!! Thats more than any Griots spray and you get 6 ounces less than Griots. My first impression of the smell was Pepto Bismol. I had read somewhere, that someone called it urinal cake scent, I can relate to that. But I will also say, it does kinda smell like a strawberry milkshake, I guess it depends on the strength of which you get your wiff of it. Anyways, I used it, it flashed fast very similar to the BOS. It shines well. It leaves a slick surface. I then drove 2 or 3 miles, round trip to the post office. When I returned I look on the back lift gate. (For those of you with SUVs, vans, box trucks etc, you know the rear is always the dirtiest!). I found more dust than ever! With the BOS just 2 days prior, I had put 20-30 miles on the tahoe running errands, and found a very light layer of dust on the rear. Now I had driven much much less and there was tons of dust.

Do note, I never did a water test and the vehicle had been waxed with collonite 845.

1st place- BOS.
Pros-cheaper, flashes fast, super high gloss, slick surface, smells good, attracts less crap.

Cons-haven't found any yet

2nd-ADS. Pros-flashes fast, good gloss, slick surface.

Cons-not sure about the smell, attracts dirt, owner maybe married to a bi@$h

3rd-SS. Pros-clay lube, smells like candy, may work better on light color cars, or door jams.

Cons-hazy, can blotch.

Also note, I have used all 3 of these around my house, granite counters, stainless appliances, all work well, try it sometime!

now i want to try the GG BOS even more, that's the only QD (besides ech2o which i already have) that has peaked my interest more than any other right now...

It seems to be the pattern with Griots that if the product came out recently it's good stuff; if it's from their older line, meh.

VISITOR and ducksfan...thats what I'm hearing specially with the BOSS products. I think im going to buy my first orbital soon, that being the griots 6" original. They recommended their boss correcting cream, I already have their complete polish, but may go with the Boss line, after hearing so many awesome things.

i also purchased a gallon of speed shine the same time i ordered the BOS, which now i am re-gretting, but ill find uses for it. Definitely buying a gallon of BOS soon.

Griots is also an extremely friendly customer service company, Ive had bottle tops break, sent an email, got a new bottle and top in a couple days. Towels started showing lint, emailed, got new towels etc... Very nice and top notch! Customer for life!

The speed shine makes for a nice drying aid. I've grown to really like it as a detail spray too. Nice product.

i can't recommend it enough (and have), solid and packs plenty of power/torque. it's the LIL' BOSS as joe (nextleveldetail) coined the name/term... :xyxthumbs:

i was going to buy the smaller 22oz. size to sample first but am going to go with the gallon instead. will have to wait for the next big sale... :)

no doubt, GG customer service is the best in the business... :dblthumb2:

Oh ok, I usually use Griots Spray Wax as a drying aid, it does require a quick buffing afterwards. How well does the speed shine work for you? Does it help repel water?

Any recommendations for a first time orbital user?
Should I go with the 5" conversion kit?
Do I apply pressure or just let the machine work?
Any special polish you prefer?

Also i think the gallon of BOS is the best way to go!

Speed shine is a high lubricity product. Works great for me as a drying aid. It's often touted that it "leaves nothing behind". I gotta think it leaves -something- behind, as it truly does leave paint shinier than before you used it. As for that -something- affecting water behavior, I've not noticed much in that regard. If you're looking for something that "beads", or has some longevity, sure there are better options. That said, Speed Shine is superb at doing what it's intended to do (light dust removal, adding a little shine, or as a clay-lube). The off-label use as a drying aid just kinda helps your towel glide across the paint (helping to avoid swirls) and adds a little shine at the same time.
