When washing my vehicles I use the two bucket method with grit guards in both. For some reason my bucket has expanded slightly and the grit guard is super loose to where I have to put one hand in the bucket holding the guard and then with my other hand in the wash mit, twirl it around to remove any particles. Is there a way to somehow cement the guard in place?

Or should I just buy some new buckets?

If you adhere it, you won't be able to thoroughly clean the bucket. Use a small piece of plastic or rubber as a wedge to hold it still or buy new ones would be my suggestion.

Good idea with the wedging of a piece of plastic. Thanks.

Might be Easier to spend $3.00 at the big box stores to replaced 5 gallon bucket

Have others seen this issue? I used these during the winter with hot water and wondering if that is the cause?

Maybe. I have a bucket with grit guard I purchased from AG and the grit guard fits snugly as it should, but I also have another 5-gal bucket I purchased from Lowe's and the second grit guard I have does not fit snugly.

I use 2 grit guards in both my soap and rinse bucket (1 in the wheel bucket). Being as they LOVE to float, that could be a problem.

With all 5 of them I took a 3/16" drill bit and put holes in the 'fins' at the bottom. Then took a hot glue gun and put tapered fishing weights into the holes. :)

Then the ones in the 2 buckets they are turned 45° and connected with small zip ties.

They all stay in place, remove easily for cleaning. And the 2 main buckets have absolutely ZERO current/slush from the bottom no matter how hard you agitate the water. :D

Great responses. Think Ill just go ahead and buy an AG bucket.

Seriously?

So a "Non professional detailing bucket" is what... $2.98, and a FOOD GRADE bucket is only $4.48 but somehow a magical $12.99 bucket is going to solve world peace. Nahhhh.... I'll take and buy 3 of the light blue, dark blue, and silver buckets and have enough left over to have lunch at Wendys. :D

Seriously though, 5 minutes with a hot glue gun and 4 fishing weights and you'll never have a 'floating' Grit Guard again. :dblthumb2:

I just bought new buckets. Went to Home Depot and bought 5 gallon buckets. Not the orange "Homer" buckets, but plain white ones. They are a few bucks more - but grit guards fit perfect.

Doing more rinseless washes I do a lot with the GDWM and remove the grit guard.
