Grit Guard Tips and tricks

Home depot sells an almost clear 5gal buckets that even have marks for measuring how many gallons you want along with a foam handle. Look in the painting section, it also fits the grit guard PERFECTLY. One big plus is it doesn't have home depot written anywhere which is a plus, at least for me.

My grit guards go all the way to the bottom of my white lowes 5g buckets. I can just drop them in.

Doesn't fit my 5 gallon bucket from Autozone nor the joint compound ones,I've heard fits the Lowes one,can someone confirm this.

I have them in a Lowes bucket. I had to trim the legs down to fit.

Make sure you don't leave any debris from trimming on the guards and you should be ok.

I have been using the Lowes buckets like this for almost two years with no negative effects.

They do not fit in your 5 gallon buckets because the buckets are not full 5" all the way through. If you notice at the bottom, the bucket tapers down just a little too much, enough for the grit guard to get stuck on the way down. To fix this, you need to find 5 gallon buckets that do not taper at the bottom.

I have about 4 buckets from HD and my grit guards all fit snugly at the bottom. That reminds me I need more grit guards... maybe I'll try a dirt dropper.

Great info, will have to pick these up, $5 a piece?

I'm surprised to hear that there is so much problem with the GG's fitting down (I thought it was more of an isolated problem). I bought my GG's and my 3.5 gal buckets from an online plastics place many years ago and never had any problem with the fit.

These are the exact same buckets I use. They are great for the price.

As for my self, I don't mind if the GG goes all the way to the bottom, It just puts more distance from the bottom and saves me from buying another GG, I use the Lowes buckets as well so I bought AG's wash and rinse stickers, doesn't totally cover the emblem but at least you can't tell who's bucket it is. Just my .02

Ha! I got the AG dual buckets on wheels set and the included grit guards don't fit!

If you want them to go all the way to the bottomYou will need to trim the area that touches the side of the bucket, mine do not fit all the way but it just puts more distance to the bottom.

I use the standard Orange Home Depot buckets and the GG falls to the bottom with ease!
