GT500 Black Matte Stripe - Scratch

I gave up trying to work with the dealer. I found a good local guy to replace the stripe. The Ford authorized part is $148. Not sure what the labor is going to be just yet.

I wrote the owner of Woody Anderson Ford as well about my concerns and lack of response. I'm sure nothing will come of it. Sad but i should have pitched a bigger fit at the time of delivery. I was just caught up in the whole idea of this car. On well you live and learn

Yep... once you sign on the dotted line all signs of being "nice caring people" tend to dissappear...

For what it's worth... the members of this forum will be happy to help you take care of your car into the future...

Just keep in mind that both the paint and the stripes are scratch-sensitive. You can't remove scratches out of the stripes and removing scratches out of the clearcoat will be a lot of time and work, so be very careful in how you touch the exterior of the car and how you let ANYONE else touch the exterior of the car.

Be sure to read my article here before you take the car in for service and follow the recommendations or we'll see you back here asking for help to remove DISO or the Dealer Installed Swirl Option

DON'T WASH CAR !!!!!!!!!!!

Advice for metallic black paint - Dealership Installed Swirls

:dunno:

I personally would not give up yet. I would contact Ford directly and ask for the contact information for the regional/State rep and contact them to "inform them" of the dealer's clear failure to follow the expressed recommendation.

If you are going through the expense of completely replacing the stripes, I would echo a previous post to get them painted on. Locally it would cost (material and labor) around $700. A little more than the decal and installation which should be around 1/2 that quote but then you don't have to worry about it :)

I just don't want the dealer to touch the car at all! On a good note, I've been working with my local Michigan Ford Dealer for about 15 years. They all know me by name and NOT TO WASH my cars!

Thank you for all the replies

I contacted Ford on the Phone today and they are sending a note to the dealer. I really don't expect much but I want to know I'm not satisfied.

I ordered the (1) Stripe for now. There is a great local guy that is doing the install. It will do for now. Down the road I might have them painted on. Only time will tell how the vinyl holds up.

Thank you for your reply!

Hi Mike...

Below is the only automatic-car-wash information I was able to locate.
Noticed in the Owners Manual it wasn't prohibited.
(The dealership even used an "Auto Butler" on the OP'S GT500.)

But the GT500 Supplement said not to do so:
But it said/had nothing about: "Don't do it because of Matte Graphics"...that I could find though.

Perhaps the OP can enlighten further.

Supplement, 2nd Printing

WASHING YOUR SHELBY GT500
Do not drive your vehicle through an automated, commercial car wash
due to the vehicle’s low ground clearance, tire width and track.
Wash
your vehicle by hand, or by using a touchless commercial wash with no
mechanical tracks on the floor. Do not use a power washer or high
pressure wand on the striped surfaces or stripe edges
. Refer to the
Owner’s Manual for information on cleaning products and vehicle care.
To maintain proper cooling and aerodynamics at high speeds, your
vehicle has heat exchangers integrated with the front fascia designed to
maximize performance.
Note: Do not use a power washer or high powered spray nozzle as
damage to the fins could occur.
Note: For heavy accumulation of debris or dirt, clean with a non-metallic
soft bristle car wash brush and warm soapy water as needed.

WHEELS
Your SVT vehicle is equipped with unique wheels matched to the tires.
These wheels are more susceptible to damage due to their diameter,
width and low profile tires. To avoid damage to your wheels:
• Maintain proper tire pressure (see Tires in this supplement).
• Do not drive your vehicle through an automated, commercial car wash
due to the vehicle’s low ground clearance, tire width and track.
Wash
your vehicle by hand, or by using a touchless commercial wash with
no mechanical tracks on the floor. Do not use a commercial or high
pressure wand on the striped surfaces.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR
Wash your vehicle regularly with cool or lukewarm water and a neutral
pH shampoo, such as Motorcraft® Detail Wash.
• Never use strong household detergents or soap, such as dish washing
or laundry liquid. These products can discolor and spot painted
surfaces.
• Never wash a vehicle that is hot to the touch or during exposure to
strong, direct sunlight.
• Dry the vehicle with a chamois or soft terry cloth towel in order to
eliminate water spotting.
• Immediately remove items such as gasoline, diesel fuel, bird droppings
and insect deposits because they can cause damage to the vehicle’s
paintwork and trim over time. Use Motorcraft® Bug and Tar Remover.
• Note: Suntan lotions and insect repellents can damage any painted
surface; if these substances come in contact with your vehicle, wash
off as soon as possible.
• Remove any exterior accessories before entering a car wash.

Convertible Top and Padded Molding
For vinyl tops, wash with Motorcraft® Detail Wash.
For cloth tops, wash with a high quality convertible top cleaner and
protectant.
• Do not use stiff bristle brushes or abrasive materials or cleaners.
Hot waxes applied by commercial car washes can affect the
cleanability of vinyl material
.
• Using high water pressure or wand-type car washes against the
convertible top and windows may cause water leaks and possible seal
damage.

That's it. It could be subject to interpretation but I personally take it as, " DO NOT RUN THE CAR THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC WASH"

Thank you for posted!

Thank you for all the replies! I will keep everyone posted on the situation.

Properly cared for and maintained, you will have years of enjoyment out of your decals. Ford does not use cheap vinyl for their decals ;)

My advise to you is to keep that puppy protected from day one. An ounce of prevention...

The decals on my truck get a gentle application of UTTG every 3 months or so. Great product IMO. Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus, tire & trim protectant, tire dressing, rubber protectant

Love the Raptor! So I have to ask, with the Ultima Tire Product, how do you apply it to your Hood decal?

Thank you for the reply

I use the enclosed applicator (which is very good). A few drops is basically all you will need (once the applicator is loaded). ALL plastic and trim on the truck get the UTTG treatment. If I do a rush job, it may initially appear streaky but nothing that a gentle wipe with a black microfiber can fix. If the applicator hits the paint or the windows, a gentle wipe with a MF will take care of that (and it won't affect your LSP).

Now if you were asking about reaching all corners of this huge decal on this lifted race truck..... well, I'm 6'6" and got a wingspan to match, so I don't need no stinking ladder LOL! :dblthumb2:

Nice! Thanks for the recommendation! I'm going to get some on order.

I'm 6'1" and still need a step ladder to get to the middle part of my wifes Flex.

Well I got the stripe fixed yesterday. Cost me a total of $230. The man who did it is an artist! Looks perfect again. If anyone needs the best decal stripe guy in southeast michigan let me know
