Guest speaker?

Well, tomorrow is the big day! I haven't put near as much time into my presentation as I am in the middle of swapping the trans in my S10. fun stuff, NOT! I am going to try and borough my neighbors car to get to the presentation so I can bring some demo stuff with, and maybe even use his car as a demo vehicle after the meeting as it is covered in swirls, scratches, and RIDS, but, not covered in wax.lol
Really should have left well enough alone with the trans but, you all know us detailer types. We can never leave well enough as good enough.:) I will make it to the meeting and give my presentation even if I have to ride my bike, or better yet, walk; about two miles from my house so know biggie. Just may not being bring all the props that I stated before. If I could manage all that I would be the new mobile detailer on bicycle/foot.lol Good stuff!
Thanks everyone, especially Mike P. for all the input/info/help. Will give a follow up tomorrow after the meeting.
BTW, if anyone has any good last minute tips for swapping a 4L60E trans feel free to drop me a line here or PM. I will take all the help on this trans swap I can get.
Thanks again all. :)

Good luck. You have received a lot of good info on what to cover. All I cam really say is trying your best to make it interesting and not dry. I am an instructor for the Army. I give multiple classes every day to soldiers. It can be difficult to get up in front of people. As long as you have Passion, the people will listen. One of the best compliments I got from a soldier was I took a very boring subject, and made it sexy. That is what you have to do. Let your Passion for the subject rise to the top.

If you don't have one already get a transmission jack or makeshift one out of some wood and a floor jack.

Have plenty of absorbent towels around to clean up any spilled fluids.

Try to have a couple of strong buddies around to help out...

Make sure you have the car supported by multiple floor jacks for safety's sake.

I've removed and replaced more clutches and transmissions than I care to remember including two huge dump trucks as one extreme example and cars like Triumph Spitfires at the other extreme where the transmission comes out from the passenger side interior...

:D

Thanks for the tips for the trans. I am at the point of it coming out, so I have already enjoyed the great shower of fluid in my garage. Looks like the garage floor will be getting an overhaul after all this. :D Just gotta rig up something to make getting the trans out with my floor jack. I would go buy a drop-in plate for it but I am limited on transportation.:) Think I am going to attempt something with some plywood and a block of 4"x6". Just trying to being safe is the goal. :xyxthumbs:
I am finishing up the outline for my presentation and am going in the direction of "From the basics to a show car finish!" I am going point out the how's and why's along to way to achieving a show car finish. It is going to be tough to fit it all into 10mins. Godspeed!:dblthumb2:
After I do the speaking presentation I am going to tackle the trans swap with my neighbor if he is still up for it at 8p.m. Think I am going to detail his wife's black Kia as a gift after all his help.:props:
Thanks again everyone, and I will probably post the results of everything tom as tonight is going to be a long one. Again.:(

Well, things went pretty good with the speaking gig. I didn't stick to exactly what I had written because I hate constantly looking at my notes while talking to people. So obviously I forgot a few things but, I think people were very well informed on what I spoke about and may not have been able to absorb much more anyway. It was a great learning experience and I hope to be able to do it again. I really enjoy sharing great info with people, especially when I know they will most likely make good use of it. I Out of about 25 people that were there I spoke with probably about a dozen of them personally and have follow-ups/appointments with at least a half dozen of them; one of which is the president of the club who invited me.Im the MAN So if anything I will get some business from this and have planted some detailing seeds in several people's minds for them to really think about what they are doing when washing and detailing their Mustang/cars.:dblthumb2:
After seeing some pics on the forum today of Mike doing a mobile tech presentation I remembered I didn't get any pics of me speaking to the club.:( I will have to do it all over again to get some.:Picture: Next time I do anything like that I will give my camera to a person in the crowd so they can snap a few shots for me. I will have to make a checklist of what bring and what to do for presentations.:xyxthumbs:
The president, Rod, spoke to me about setting up a demo booth/tent for a show coming up this month at the dealership they had the meeting at last night, and also for the clubs Octoberfest show at the dealership in Oct. On top of that, once I get a few of the club members' cars detailed he offered to put me on their website as a club sponsor/business partner. I am not a fan of Mustangs but I am becoming a fan of their club here.:D They do a lot of great stuff for the community/charities, and are always trying to help out local businesses like myself. I would be honored to be affiliated with them regardless of what vehicles I am/am not a fan of.:props:
As for the transmission, did not get home until after 9:30, so missed the window of opportunity to get my neighbor's help. Guess I might have to wait until this weekend. Sorry Mike. I was planning on being at your classes this weekend but I have had a few things throw wrenches into that plan.lol Maybe the next class if my schedule allows. I will be in touch to find out when that will be.
Thanks again Mike and everyone else that threw info and advice my way.
Oh! Another cool thing is that I got some Facebook action on my biz page last night from the Mustang club, and I never even mentioned anything about that last night. God blessed me more than I could have hoped for last night.:props:

Sounds like the meeting was a success :righton:

It's very rewarding helping others to reach their goals whatever they may be...

Congratulations!

Sounds like an over the top successful speaking engagement! Possibly one of many to come in the future. Next time really try hard to get some kind of pictures showing you speak and/or demonstrate.

If you do the follow-up presentation, get some pictures from that event. Then use this to approach other clubs. This is the best way I've found to go after and target "Special Interest Vehicles". You have to earn the owners of cars like these before they will let you "touch" them.

They don't now what to do but they won't trust anyone else to touch their cars, that's why so many cars at car shows are swirled out. The first step to buffing out cool cars is earning the owners trust and being able to speak intelligently to an audience is a great way to demonstrate your qualified and earn their trust.

Example pictures

Pictures that show you demonstrating and holding everyone's attention are powerful

With this technique you run the bead of product into that pad at the 10 O'Clock position on the pad while tilting the pad approximately 10 degrees moving the buffer from right to left...

Know your material and capture your audience's attention...
I always thought these were some good pictures because it shows everyone paying attention... this was from a Meguiar's Roadshow Class I did here in Florida back in 2006 when I started the Roadshow classes for Meguiar's. Dwayne McPeeks attended this class as did Todd Helme. You can see Todd wearing the blue shirt with the #6 on it. We've been friends ever since.

This is what you want... everyone focused and paying attention...

If you look close, you can see Dwayne in this picture, he's wearing a green shirt and a black cap, just to the right of the lower right hand corner of the Detailer Banner.

Hard to believe this was just 5 years ago...

So take a friend to play the part of a photographer, make sure they get far shots, not close-up shots of your hands on a polisher... :D

Good job Shaun!

Thanks M.P., Flash, and Mike for the congrats. Things could have gone better, but, we are our own worst critics, right? My the dealership has some surveillance video I can get.LOL I laughed when I thought of if, that two of my neighbors are photographers and would have helped me out had I asked. We learn best from out mistakes though, right?... I am in the process of making notes/checklist for future presentations. Also in the process of superimposing myself over Mike in some of his photos so I have evidence of my recent club presentation. JK Mike, would never claim to be you even though I stole your stolen line during my presentation. "If you find something you like, use it and use it often." :props:I did give credit to you but couldn't remember the original guys name that you took it from.
Was funny, I mentioned Autogeek and one of the guys there looking at me was shacking his head like he knows about AG and maybe is even on here (AGO). I love spreading the word about AG as I have been dealing with them since 2005 and can't believe that most people I speak with don't know of/about AG/AGO. I told them that if they are on a forum for their Mustangs they should be on a forum for how to take care of/detail them. I am going to become a member of the SEVMC forum so I can give them up to date detailing/car care info and answer questions for them in case some members don't find their way onto AGO. My name and business are posted on their forum, so several people know of me from there already.Im the MAN
Thanks again everyone and I will post a new thread when I start doing demos at show&shines/car shows. As soon as the truck is fixed I will be heading to the salvage yard to find a test panel or two. This is exciting stuff!:dblthumb2: And one of the coolest things is that my dad was excited to hear about and glad that I called and told him about it.:D
