Guys talking Towels - Bulk or One Off - Good Bad or Ugly

Didn't get through the entire post yet, will do tomorrow on the train, but my favorite is the pakshak ultra smooth, just works great for everything from spray detailers, to polish and wax removal. However it doesn't appear that they are being sold anymore :( I was planning to get a bunch, around 40 or so on their black friday sale but once I went to order they were sold out. I am looking at the MFT elite towel but curious how it will compare.

Just ordered 8 Tornados, so pumped. Expecting to get a few free ones too.

And 128oz of Micro-Restore.

I LOOOOOOVE quality microfibers. I've been converted. Hahaha.

What towel and technique do you use to remove car wax without the residue(dust) scratching black paint.

Blue rolled/hemmed edge microfibers are pretty much my go to. And Blackfire microfiber is hands down the best all around microfiber cleaner.

Never known "wax" (or polymer based wax/sealants or even plain ol' sealants to scratch the surface. :dunno:

Compounds otoh might just do so. ; (

Have you tried the MFT edgeless Korean 500's? :)
They are NICE!
Makes me glad now they sent me 51 of them instead of the Shaggy Dogs! :) I got a sample of that one from Ryan "rmd" and it is for sure a shaggy dog.... more like a matted hair shaggy dog. (Of course when you try hard enough you can end up at < half what Rag Co has been charging for a LESSER "500" (more like a 470... or is it a 480... they've been calling it all three lately)
who can complain.) ;)

I need to get in on this thread! Still waiting on my new computer so i can type! Subscribed.

So besides weight does the Rag Co. orange 470-500 feel the same as the MFT 470?

those are great as well as any good high quality mf towel that is in the 350-380gm range which is perfect for just about any task. the thicker the towel gets, they tend to lint more often...

Just out of curiosity do any of you know what weight any of the cg towels are beside the sasquatch? That is the only one I found any info on.

And what is the highest gsm you have seen in a towel... just curious

From AG, I think the Purple 600s are my favorite.

I gotta say though, I think until I find better, all the new towels I buy are going to be Microfiber Madness. All of the ones I've used are excellent, and the price really isn't that much more than I was paying before. Plus, I've talked to them and they're cool dudes that love detailing cars and interact with customers.

The only one I haven't tried is Dry Me Crazy, as I have 4 Cobra waffle weave towels from AG and a MM Waverider. Oh yeah, and the 900gsm towel which looks epic. I heard it's great for rinseless washes or GDWM.

The real problem is I need to find buyers for my current microfibers, most of which have never been used... Any takers or know anyone... ;)

MFT is actually a heavier towel, cardaddy weighed them out and found the Rag Co was marketed at 500 but didn't come in at that weight, however the MFT towel is over 500.

:dblthumb2:Believe me I've tried more than my fair share of MFs and this is a true statement, they are simply the best towels on the planet:dblthumb2:

Just got my order in. Not happy at all with the 360's. The 600's are OK. The 700's are very nice. And I picked up some black 300's to do wheels but I think I might end up using them for the interior instead.

I have a couple of the MFT 470 because I wanted to compare them to the TRC Eagles I had. The 470 definitely has a bit more weight to it, but the orange Eagles I have are fluffier/softer.

I have a few blue edgeless from TRC that I bought a couple years ago, they're heavier and they feel identical to the MFT 470s in just about every way. My guess is they both came from the same factory at some point.

Choosing one over the other, I'd chalk it up to personal preference, since It looks like TRC added more pricing tiers, and MFTs look lower at a glance. (I'd guess both places are almost even once you count shipping in)

As long as the towels don't scratch, the price is right and my cars come out shiny, I'm a happy camper.

I wish those MFT 470's weren't on back order when I placed my order. I really want to try one.

Talking towels... I had a bunch of nice MFT 600's that have used for over a year to do rinseless. Over time they became rather water resistant despite washing promptly after each use with formerly CG microfiber wash and now the Wolfgang product. There was an earlier post about "resetting" towels.

"The Boiling Method (212 F)

Boiling water breaks down the build up of chemicals, wax, sealants, cleaning products in the fiber.
Korean manufacturers have recommended the use of “boiling” microfibers to ensure any of the dyes or contaminants from the factory are fully gone.
Be careful of boiling timetables, limit up to 20 minutes. May fade dyes."

Since the towels were "water resistant" to the point of floating for about 30 seconds when dropped into a bucket of rinseless, I thought well, why not? I put about a gallon of hot water from the tap and then several large pot-fulls of boiling water with a couple oz of Optimum Opt-clean and put a half dozen towels in the mix and agitated them a couple of times over about a half hour period. I rinsed them by wringing them out and dunking them several times in another bucket that I ran a constant stream of water into under the faucet in the bathtub. Then they went into the washer with a small amount of WG Microfiber Cleaner and restorer.

I was a bit worried about exposing MF to near boiling heat, but the towels had gotten to the point that I was considering replacing them all anyway.

The result? Wow, the towels came out super soft and sank like a stone when dropped into rinseless bucket. Totally useable again. Not sure how this will affect the longevity of the towels, but for this batch it saved them from the trash bin. Will try it again in a few months with these towels and see how they do. Have to say I was really surprised with the result of this. Props to the OP on the microfiber care thread who suggested this.

PS- to the MFT vs Eagle posts above, Tony sent me a grey MFT unit and I really like it as compared to the Eagles. The grey actually felt softer, and they are about a dollar cheaper. Shipping prices will offset this a little depending on where you live, but I am going to go with MFT for this towel. I ordered some myself before I got the unit from Tony, and received the blue silk bordered ones instead of the edgeless I ordered, and I swear the blue feels different from the edgeless grey. It feels lighter and slightly thinner. Tony seems to think I am nuts on this, as MFT contends they are the same, but they just feel a little different to me. This may be isolated to a single batch, but I am going to be ordering the edgeless greys going forward.

Of the few towels that I do have, I have the Dry Me Crazy. It's extremely soft to the touch.. but... its the only towel where I have noticed it leaving swirls!!! Noticed it after washing a black bike that I polished, and also tested it out on a CD and it scratched that also.

The idea of boiling the towels freaks me out, tbh. I'm sure it's possible to do it w/o melting anything, (as a number of people appear to have succeeding using this method) but I'm just worried my clumsy lack of time-awareness will result in a puddle of goop, lol.

As for the Dry Me Crazy, that's very interesting to hear about swirls. With the way everyone lauds MM as the second coming or something, (and those prices?) I've been very curious to see how those and the others MM sells stack up against the rest of my towels.
