I just ordered some of this to give it a try. As per the instructions is states to thoroughly wash the surface to be treated before application. Now do I leave the whole car wet and apply or dry it off and then do the application and rinse the vehicle?

I apply iron removers to a dry surface; I want it to contact the paint, not the water.

I also have one more question regarding use of an iron remover in general. My Evo X has the hood vents in it. Should I put some towels on top of the engine compartment in order to reduce the chance of staining. I do get water into the engine bay slightly when washing normally.

Good question. Not sure what's beneath those vents before the engine bay. My first reaction is to say avoid iron removers in those areas. That may be overly cautious, however.
