New laptops suck, they have it built it but you have to burn the restore to cd's. I'm picking up some dvd's today to restore it to original use b/c it only takes 2-4 dvds to write compared to 21 cds for the system recovery. HP has it built in.dengood1 said::iagree: After a year, I get so much clutter on my pc that I just reformat it and have a brand new pc again. Just "restored" my wifes laptop after 8 months of ownership because it was painfully slow. Now it's like the day we got it:righton: Insert disc 1, 2, 3= new pc:righton:
I had the same exact problem with my gf's Dell laptop. Dell only gave me the option of erasing everything. Didn't want to do that b/c like you stuff wasn't backed up. Had to take it to computer guy and he had to get the files I wanted off of the hard drive for me and the hard drive was also failing. (clicking noise) Had to get a new hd and everything reloaded. So at least we are running on one computer instead of none. (mine is dead and I am getting ready to attempt to build a new one) Oh yeah just some FYI for everyone. I found out that if your hard drive has failed it will cost about $800 or more to get the data recovered. HD has to be sent off to a lab to get data off. Luckly my hd was just beginning to fail and important items were recovered.wytstang said:We this morning starts off nice and slow which was great. I go to do my daily forum checks and my computer goes nuts. Then it happened......The Blue Screen of Death rears its head and stops me dead in my tracks. I call a computer savvy buddy up and tell him what’s going on. I tell him the blue screen is mocking me and I can't even go into safe mode or last known good configuration. His reply "LOL" me->sadly says he can't help especially if I can't get into safe mode. So I call Dell to see what they can do to help me out as they have always come through. Since I'm out of warranty I'll have to pay a few dollars for help. NO problem lets do this :awesome:, takes my info and what it's doing. Since I couldn't get into safe mode I was left with two options. Since I never got a back up disk of XP they would send me one and then I would have to call back when it arrives. The tech tells me that there is no guaranty it would fix it it's more like a shot in the dark and hope for a bulls eye. Option two is a guaranty but I lose everything, which sucked since I never backed up my files (yeah I know). Since I felt like I was backed into a wall I chose option two and wiped out everything. We didn't have important files (I hope she didn't I'll find out when she gets home) the only thing I could think of were some pictures family, ect, ect. This sucks and a warning to all BACK UP YOUR FILES. I firmly believe Surfer is a fault from his recent threads on not wanting to lose his files. SOme how he made me do it
. The only thing that's happen todays is I some how received Fantastic 4 part 2 weird
Yeah I couldn't get past the Blue screen of death as it's called. Nothing worked I was screwed. No real choice but to lose everything. Lesson learned and will be getting an external harddrive very soon.Russecu said:I had the same exact problem with my gf's Dell laptop. Dell only gave me the option of erasing everything. I should rephrase what I wrote, for some reason on these new laptops (or at least HP) the built in recovery system prompts you to burn the stuff to dvd or cd's. However...when you go to start -> all programs -> system recovery -> PC Recovery; it works perfectly. Not sure why it wants you to burn to cds/dvds when it does it right off the drive?Surfer said:New laptops suck, they have it built it but you have to burn the restore to cd's.
