I got an ad in the paper this weekend and it appears HF has added a 6inch DA polisher to their power tool offerings (69924), $80 retail so I'm sure you can get it for at least 20% less with wdiely available coupons.

Has anyone purchased or tried this yet? For less than $60, I am tempted to get one to test and compare to my highly agonized over and newly purchased GG DA 6.

:hungry:

Has someone already beat me to this, do share?

I'll have to go check this out in store. It may be worth getting just for back up if it seems like an okay built machine. Or I would end up using it to polish my bathroom floor.

Harbor junk. I wouldn't wast my money at HF. Just my 2 cents :D

It may come our of the same Chinese factory as Griots, as the same polisher as the Griots is also sold in Europe under the name Kestrel. That Chinese company also makes a lower power 5 amp version - I wouldn't be surprised if this is the one HF sells.

As for their stuff being junk, I think some of the hand tools like sockets, extensions, and ratchets are fine for weekend warrior auto repair. I don't require a $250.00 Snap On ratchet to change my spark plugs or oil once in a while. I think for the price the performance is more than fine.

Exactly. I have broken a few Matco tools and instead of having to wait for another to be shipped, I just pick a cheap on up at HF. There is a huge thread over on this other forum that is a pass/fail thread for items that come from HF. You'll be surprised at what is actually a quality piece.

All I know is most things I've bought from HF has been low quality. I guess if your a weekend warrior they may be ok.

For what it's worth, HF has changed their 20% coupon policy (at least at the store in my city). The 20% coupon cannot be used with any other discount or on sale items. They will give you the lower of the sale price or 20% off the regular price, whichever is beneficial to the buyer. Some of the older 20% coupons didn't have that stipulation and could be used on sale items, albeit only one per transaction.

So if your store's coupon policy has also changed your best price for the new DA will be the $59.99 as advertised in the flyer.

I searched all over HF's website and their Sept. add circular for an $80.00 DA. And cod find none. All I found were some $50.00 rotaries and those cheapo plastic wax spreaders. They did have an air powered DA/orbital for $50.00 that looked like it was so-so. I couldn't find an October circular on the intranet. I'm curious to see this DA.

It's in the October circular which I received yesterday.

My rule of thumb with them is if it has a cord or a motor, I stay away. I may expand that to include any moving parts. I am not a knowledgable enough engineer to spot crap from 'will work'.

I find most things from HF to be disposable, might work once or twice but not the quality of other brands. With a buffer save a little more as many are available for just over a benjamin.

Maybe their air tools are different but I built that whole garage in my other post with a HF framing nailer. THENNNNNN so did my neighbor build his 2 car. He originally borrowed both mine and his other friends DEWALT and after 1 day told his friend he could take the dewalt back with him.

I figured it this way... if I need to buy 2 of the HF ones to build my garage then I still spent less than buying ONE name branded one!! Been using it for lotsa projects over the 6 years and couple others have borrowed it and loved it. I dont know why so many people hate their products. Same goes for my trusty rotary I got a loooong time ago from HF. Never had one single problem with it and it even came with some NEW Brushes just incase!!!

You either work for HF or you have a lot of stock.

or he is easy on tools. Ive had friends have super cheapo tools last a lifetime, and had others completely destroy high end stuff. Its all in how you treat it.

Would i buy HF stuff if i was a mechanic or builder of some sort....not in your life. Now, would i buy it for personal use for extras and stuff i dont need all thaat often, definitely. Why pay a ton for something you very rarely use?

From what I've read on here some of the Porter Cable and Griot's polishers have failed as well. I had a new Griots fail right out of the box. I have read about Porter Cable failures on here too.

I guess you can't always judge quality by price now can you?

My first PC XP died after 4 cars. The replacement spreads wax. My Griot's feels like it is finally starting to slow down, so I may replace the brushes to see if it helps. I am in the market for a new machine.

Richard, try the Cyclo, It far exceeded my expectations! Much more power than I expected!
