Hey guys.

Those of you that know me a bit may realize I have 4 dogs. (Yup, gotta be a little nuts to do that).

Well, my oldest dog, Koa has been a real trooper over her 15 year life. She has been the "momma" dog to all the others over the years, and was always the one to "teach" the others the way to act.

Anyway, over the past two weeks, she has lost a bit of appetite, had a few accidents inside, and just today kind of lost her back leg strength.

This dog has been through cruciate surgery when younger (because she would try to run up a tree in our back yard), and has survived having an adrenal gland tumor disorder for a year and a half now (with medication).

But that aside, My wife & I have made that awful decision. This will be her last night with us.
My wife has been employed at our local veterinary hospital for the last 18 years, so this whole process will be that much easier in that respect.

Sorry to ramble, but I know the decision is the right one.

Worst part right now is dealing with the wife. Although she deals with euthanasia on a daily basis at the vet, this being our own is a completely different deal.

Thanks for listening to me ramble................

My heart goes out to you Paul. My Pit passed away 3 years this past April 11th and it has definitely left a void in me.

I am so sorry for you and your family. That is one of the hardest decisions a person will ever make, but it becomes a little easier knowing that it is the best decision for the animal. Fifteen years is a long time to have with an animal and I'm sure you have many fond memories from those years you had together. Those memories will be with you forever.

hello im very sorry to hear that about your dog it sounds like you have been through a lot together god bless you and your family

Sorry to hear, sounds like she had a great life and hopefully a lot of memories

My heart goes out to you. Never fun losing furry friends. Give her all the chicken she can handle. Much love!

Paul! I'm sending hugs from way over here in Indiana as hard as I can, my friend. She knows you guys love her <3
Here if you need me, man.

I'll email you, kiddo. Thank you, and good to see you on the forum!!

Paul,

I am so sorry for you and your wife. By the third sentence tears are coming from my eyes still. Try to think positive, you gave Koa a great home, love, and the best health care money could buy. That is very commendable, and you folks have my upmost respect for that. It's a hard decision I know, but you are putting her first, her quality of life. Prayers to you and your Mrs, prayers Koa has a peaceful transition. And ramble on Brother, you got friends here!

I know all too well what you family is going through. My husband and I are still grieving the death of our Sheltie companion. He adopted us in 2003 and gave us 14 years and 2 days of incredible friendship and companionship. He died at home, with both of us with him, holding him. During the days of grieving that lay ahead for you and your family be gentle with yourself and each other. Be sure to talk with each other about all the wonderful years of unconditional love your dog gave you. Know also that your other dogs will grieve so allow them to do that. Our thoughts are with you tonight.

So sorry. I have a 15 year old Brittany who is getting there also.

I am VERY grateful to read the responses here tonight. My AG friends mean more to me than any of you might realize.

I love to kid around, and contribute here & there when I can, but I mostly read & learn.

The fact that there are so many kind and caring people on this forum is just amazing.

I really appreciate it.

paul,
this is the best thing you can do for Koa, especially if she's in pain. the other dogs may see this and it's not healthy for them to continue to do so. as you may already know, i dealt on putting down not one but two dogs which were brother and sister and i had to do so four months after the first one (had 11 precious years with them). i at least got to hold both of them in my arms when they did it. as much as i would like another one (it would be a rescue), i can't bring myself to getting another anytime soon. i've even had dreams where the door bell rang and they were right there on the porch waiting for me. i miss them so much. as long as Koa see's and knows you (and the wife) are there before she goes then that is the most comforting thing (going to sleep in Heaven). my heart is with Koa, and your Family...

Simply amazing.

My sincere condolences...

The loss of a pet hurts.
They can remind us of the many milestones
in our lives; they often do represent the
true meaning of unconditional love.

Your pup, Koa, was so lucky to have
both of you guys...

Thank you so much, Bob.

Your humorous posts have always buoyed my spirits, and tonight is certainly no exception.

Thanks Paul.

Seems like I'm compelled to inject
a little humor, every now and then:
It's as though I've been predetermined
(foreordained?) to be jocose at times.

Hmmm...
Perhaps my forum name should be "Josh"...
