Hardest part of detailing?

Starting and then Stopping. You know you got a job ahead of you and after you start it you cant stop.

Cleaning the inside of the windshield!! I hate cleaning those things. You have to be a contortionist to clean some of them.

The Glassmaster Pro makes this soooo much easier. Stoners makes a similar product too.

I'd have to say the wheels are the hardest part for me. I've had both knees replaced and it's tough to get down and stay down to do the wheels.
A mechanics stool or a 5 gallon bucket really helps on wheels and side panels.

Doing anything to the roof of my 07 Expedition, Its tall and has a luggage rack that is a PITA to work around.

I hate drying from a regular wash. It gets so hot that I get water spots in no time no matter how fast I rush to dry.

I do use ones and it makes the water dry in water spot streaks.

What car wash/media do you use? Do you wash/dry in the sun? I know that here in Georgia if you wash or dry in the midst of the hot sun you are almost guaranteed to get water spots. I use DP Auto Bath or DP Xtreme Foam and they actually do soften the water...it sheets off and rarely leaves water spots.

I suggest you use the "Blow into a microfiber towel" method. I don't know the actual method of this but its where you blow water droplets in one direction and wipe towards the blower that you're using. You can see the method on this video starting specifically at 3 minutes, but the rest of the video is good as well..

One of the hardest things about detailing for me is it made me so aware of a bad detailing that I drive myself crazy at traffic lights. You all know what I mean. You see a beautiful car all swirled out and it makes you crazy. It is impossible not to check out every other vehicles shine or lack of same. Am I the only one or does anyone else do it too. I have learned to keep my opinions to myself because my wife thinks I'm nuts.

That's why I carry a battery powered porter cable in my car...though, some people get pissed when you run up to their car and start polishing it at a red light Im the MAN :pc7424:

Too funny. I've gone from checking out the engine sound to commenting on the shape of the paint as well.

I agree, so many cars have buffer swirls all over them in my area. Sometimes when I see it next to me at the gas pumps I introduce myself, point out the buffer trails, hand them a business card and offer to fix it for them. Most never even notice them. I have gotten a few jobs like this though. Every time I see it I think dollar signs.

Trying to find the money to buy one of every product available through AutoGeek!!

I'm almost there!!

All the above.

But the hardest part of detailing to me is......

Packing and cleaning up after detailing....

The hardest part of detailing is sore arms and back after polishing and waxing the vehicle.

I agree, especially since I've just finished putting in some work on my vehicle this weekend. I used to think I would someday try to earn some extra money detailing on the side, but this is a very physically demanding job. I've turned down inquiries about my services and only occasionally help friends for free as long as they are willing to put in work as well.
