You're welcome Bill!
On a serious note:
Vibration White Finger is not a happy condition.
Best to seek other tools/methods/processes to accomplish the "work at hand"...
whether it's detailing related; or attributed to other means of earning income.
Long-term, believe me, or not: It's devastating...
Same came be said of: Peripheral Neuropathy
Bob
Thats part of the reason I jumped right in with a rotary. I avoid DA's at any cost and just use it for one steps or to remove the trails from the buffer.
I spend a little extra time getting my wheels perfectly centered when doing metal polishing as well.
Its also part of the reason I spend the extra money on nicer tools. The Flex PE14 is much more balanced and I love it for paint however it lacks the strength and speed needed for metal so I use a DWP849X for that which is not terrible but could be smoother. All of our grinders have been replaced my Metabo and the difference is astounding. You can actually grind for half the day and not be worn out. The models they have with autobalancers are very nice.
I try a lot of different gloves to help absorb some of the vibrations as well. With the metal stuff the vibrations really aren't that bad once you are on the surface and working, I usually have the buffer positioned into my body so that it does all the work and my hands dont have to. Helps too when you catch an edge and go for a ride. The DA palm sander is still a killer though.
I haven't really read into the long term effects. The doctor didn't really make it seem like it was a huge deal just an annoyance. I assume maybe it gets worse as time goes on which would maybe not be a good thing.
