Has anyone used paint correction towels instead of clay? If so, are the towels easier to use than clay?

Are you talking about the speedy prep towel and other clay alternatives?

These are great tools that have been introduced and make the clay process easier faster and less cause for concern if you drop one of the alternative on the ground.

They are more expensive but certainly worth it in my opinion.

I use the medium and light grade NanoSkin wash mitts in lieu of clay. Works great- much faster than clay IMO.

I have the Speedy Prep Towel but I prefer clay. Every time I use the towel, I get marring (which I don't get with clay). I prepped the towel per instructions but it still mars.

I use a ton of detail spray and it works just fine- lubricity is the key in preventing marring. You will need more spray with the medium grade mitt..... Or use it during the wash process and save even more time. I use CG soaps and they have plenty of lubrication.

I have the 2 sponges (medium, fine) can't wait to use them. It shouldn't cause marring on my hard GM paint.

Yes. Have used them. Also show just about every type of mechanical decontamination tool in my detailing classes here at Autogeek.

Kind of the same story with a lot of detailing tools, there is no "BEST" tool, there are a lot of very good tools.

What is best is what is best for the person and their system for detailing cars.

For example, if I owned a production detail shop where we were washing and then buffing out cars, I would use the Nanoskin Autoscrub Wash Mitt as I think it works really well and saves some time. It, like just about any other mechanical means of decontaminating paint, can and will, or at least has the potential to mar paint.

That's why I practice and recommend that anytime you do any type of mechanical decontamination, plan on doing at least one machine polishing step before applying your LSP.

As for the towels, I like them. I also machine polis all the cars I buff out. Check out this article with a video...

How To Use the Speedy Surface Prep Towel

Got the SPeedy Prep Towel and Im not sure Id ever go back to clay again.

Speedy Prep makes a great product and will make quick work of badly contaminated paint. Be careful with the "medium" grade. It's not really "medium", it is very aggressive. I prefer the "fine" grade 90% of the time. Use plenty of lubricant spray, I mean like a LOT.

Yes I referred to it as a Paint Correction Towel but the Speedy Prep towel is what I am talking about. Thanks to everyone for the tips-- Marc

I vote yes on Speedy Surface Prep Towels too.

I still use traditional clay on the rims and other hard-to-reach or small spaces though. :xyxthumbs:
