Has detailing your car turned you OCD?

No offense taken here... just something I've noticed over time. I totally agree with you. People always ask me "Is your car/place always this clean?"

I bet you're definitely itching to get in there and clean.

I am OCD about my cars.....

Lmao

In that case I'd like to clarify.. I'm not OCD about cleaning the yard or the house, I'm just really good at doing it. I am and always have been good at cleaning everything. But that doesn't mean everything stays clean 24/7 lol.. Well except for my cars interior, but I wouldn't consider that actual OCD in the literal way....

Glad you put up that second post. ;) That's more like me. :D

I've been OCD about my cars since my first one in the early 70's. Just can't STAND a dirty car, interior included. Her Denali otoh the inside hurts my feelings. Just too cluttered for me. My son... OMG... his 4Runner drives me friggin' crazy. Had to move it the other week and I put a glove on before touching his steering wheel cover and drivers door. I mean WTH is he thinking?

When I was in the towing business, lots of the other guys used to say I never worked, just spent all my time keeping trucks clean. Quite the contrary, I just never let them get dirty. :)

I even kept a change of clothes in my truck(s) so that if I got dirty during the day I'd have a clean change with me. Always wore some sort of golf shirt and jeans. Specialized in hi-line towing, MB, BMW, and insurance company work, so it was an image I needed to maintain. More often that not when I'd walk into a towing yard (wrecker service, although I HATE the word 'wrecker') to pick up a vehicle, the person at the counter (if they didn't know me) thought I was an insurance adjuster. They'd tell me where the car was, that I "could walk down there and write my estimate". Then I'd tell them, "NO... I need you to open the gate so I can get my truck in, I need to pick the vehicle up". They'd be saying stuff like "You don't look like a wrecker driver". Well DUH... "I'm not, I'm a professional towing operator" I'd tell them. They'd just shake their head.

I *DID* win a lot of trophies going to truck shows from 85 till I retired in 2002 though. ;)

Now as for the house....
Let's just say it's 'comfortable', or is that 'lived in'.

CarMomma has always said she's allergic to cleaning, just HATES to clean house. I think that goes back to when she was a little girl, her mother would make her crawl under the dining table and dust the chairs and table legs. I mean she does it, just doesn't take any joy in it. So recently... she was having all sorts of sinus problems, so she went to an allergy doctor. Come to find out, she has SEVERE allergies to dust, I mean it's friggin' BAD!!! So much so that she has to give herself shots now, (and carry an EpiPen). So come to find out... she IS allergic to house cleaning.
Who'd a thunk it. Im the MAN

I admit, I could have picked a better title for this thread. I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone who has OCD or knows someone that does.

I was just implying that once you start down the path of maintaining your vehicle to a certain standard, it starts to creep into other areas of your life as well.

I am getting anxious just thinking about how dirty my car is and knowing I wont get a chance to clean it until this weekend the earliest. A DD with two boys under 4 and daily drop-off/pick-up duty; things tend to get a little messy.

Absolutely no offense here. I laughed so hard what I am OCD too. Cars and 2nd Amendment stuff. Can't stand a dirty car or a rough slide for my Guns/Rifle. Everything else is MEH to me. I use the techniques I have learned from detailing cars and have applied some techniques to 2nd Amendment stuff. I can't wait for the Rupes mini hybrid....will go well with both!! :dblthumb2:

Don't know about OCD but I did think at one point that maybe I had become a little too obsessed with improving my polishing technique when I was slowing down my arm movement and making overlapping passes while using my electric toothbrush.....

I think I enjoy detailing and polishing/waxing my car because it is like lifting weights, hard work, but you see results and for me that is very satisfying.

I've been a bit OCD about certain things in my life. I am a clean person but my detailing hasn't really changed that for the better or worse.

What has made me even more OCD about detailing is the fact that I love black cars. My Audi especially. Looks so G-dang nice all perfect that I can't help but want it perfect all the time. Thus my son laughs as everytime I'm done washing and putting it away, I'm back outside for at least a quick buff or correction somewhere for some even little reason.

That said, even our 9yr old van looks great all cleaned up and people think it's just a few years old or must have low miles.

I can't speak for everyone, but I seriously doubt any of us takes offense to it. We know what you're saying, and pretty sure many, if not all, could totally relate.

In my case, I'm big on clean windshield/glass. No matter what; I have to have a clean windshield in front of me before I put the car in gear. Even if it's a foggy/damp day. A close second would be wheels. Even if the vehicle is dusty, clean glass & wheels do make the whole vehicle appeared clean overall.

Everyday: Glass.
Every other day: Wheels.
Every 3 days: Waterless or rinseless.

Cars and 2nd Amendment stuff.

YES SIR! Motorsport & marksmanship for me as well. :props:

I'm a fairly easy going person - quite liberal - willing to listen to reasonable counterpoints. One thing I won't budge, however, is the Second Amendment. There is no argument here. I've heard them all. The bottom line for me is: the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Period. Shaming me with labels and/or guilt tactics just doesn't work with me.
