I was using my burgandy megs pad for the first time tonight even though i've had it for a couple months now. anyway, i help my brother polish up a couple of tough scratches out of his car and go to my typical cleaning process. let it soak in warm water for a while to loosen up the polish then soak it and clean with the XTM pad cleaner stuff. Head back outside to stick it on the 7424 to dry the pad out and after about 10 seconds the thing splits into 3 pieces. Take a look.

Question is, has this ever happened to any of you? Am I not drying the pad out the proper way? What does everybody do for the typical clean and dry on their pads? Am i doing something wrong, or do you think i got a defective pad? List out your cleaning/drying process. Sorry I'm rambling, I'm just pissed this thing got shredded the first time i used it.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I have never used megs pads but on 3m and css pads I sometimes speed up the drying process buy putting them on my rotary and spinning them at full speed, 2800rpm, and have never had anything happen.

To clean mine I used DP pad cleaner mixed in a 5 gal. bucket and put pads in for around 5-15 mins, I have forgotten and left them in overnight before too with no ill effect. Then i used my thumbs, or my pad brush for stubborn ones, to clean the pad while rotating it.

To dry I compress my palms around the circumference of the pad, give them a couple of shakes, then hang em up on a peg rack to dry.

Maybe you caused a small rip when ringing the pad out? Was it soaking wet when you put it on? A pad that thick soaked weighs a bit and would create alot of stress. Just guesses tho.

Call up AG. I am sure someone will help you out, assuming you bought it from them, as their customer service is second to none.
 
That is a defective pad.

I have maroon pads that are five years old and are still in use. I wash them in the sink with hot water and dawn. Then squeeze them out to dry.

Just go to the megs site and ask them for the address to send it to. They will replace it, no problem.
 
I'm in the process of sending pics to autogeek as they want to forward them to Meguiars.

I agree with modman, I think it's defective. I wash all my other pads the same exact way and have never had any problems.

Hopefully I can get a new pad out of this deal!
 
Autogeek is sending me a new pad. Man those guys are awesome.
